Are you eating JUST the peanut butter...not peanut butter on crackers/etc? I like to get a big spoon of peanut butter and just nosh away! Don't need anything to hold it other than the spoon!

I wasn't sure about ladybugs math. I looked at the dsfacts.com DS math section and it really depends on complex carbs vs simple carbs (sugars). Look at:

http://www.dsfacts.com/ds-math.html#.UqvXrvRDuCk

It seems the numbers on malabsorption for complex carbs can be pretty variable but 60% (.60) seems like a good place to start but no malabsorption for simple carbs like sugars.

Having said that, at 8 months I just count protein, and journal my food if I ever want to start tracking carbs. I usually have enough trouble to get in my protein but I worry about carbs and Christmas..

I don't know if this makes a difference but my father in law is diabetic and his doctor said they are looking at carbs differently now. He said we can't really subtract all the fiber out the way we thought we could in the past. The current recommendation is if there are over 13 grams of fiber you can subtract 1/2 that amount from the carb total. Maybe calculating your carbs this way will help? Good luck! I am early out so I haven't experienced it yet - but I can imagine the scale going the wrong direction would make me crazy too and I would definitely want to find the cause! Good luck!!! 😊

MOST diabetics end up having to count all carbs (even fiber) as it affects their insulin. I was an insulin pump dependent type 2 and HAD to count all the fiber and sugar alcohols as all of it affected my numbers.

THAT is why I consider NET carbs as voodoo math. I count ALL carbs and aim for about 75-100 daily. Don't always succeed but that is my daily goal.

That was my thought :) since I am so early out I try to keep between 10-25 total carbs daily.

I am one of those folks that low carbing, high fat just doesn't cut it any more.  After 70 lbs dropped off, my body wasn't letting go of the fat.  Calories did count for me.  But I wasn't doing any DS math over it.  That's just too much effort and you won't stay with it very long.

Log your foods onto MFP, don't eat sugar (simple carbs) at all, and no more than XXX carbs per day (move this up or down depending on your body).  So I logged all my proteins and veggies and carbs.  I didn't log fats because I'm not eating enough to worry about the 20% calories I squeeze out of it.

I multiplied total calories by 60%.  That's roughly how many calories per day I suck down.

As I lost weight, I did cut calories.  I went from 1700 per day down to 1200 a day.  It only made sense.  I wasn't working out, I'm over 50, and I had less body mass to feed.  My metabolism wasn't working well enough to keep eating 1700 calories a day and still lose 100 lbs.  To do this, I recalculated my protein requirements every 10 lbs to try not to over shoot the protein mark.

One thing I learned is the more fat I drink (heavy cream, fat bombs), the more my abdominal fat started to melt.  Eating high fat with protein is the key for me.  Eating high fat while sucking down simple or complex carbs is really bad though (I gain weight).

Something a veteran taught me was to have a carb fest every 2 weeks.  Eat very low carb for 2 weeks, then on a weekend (I start Friday night) eat all the carbs you want to snarf down.  Blow the bank on it.  It shocks your body out of the rut.  On Monday go back to very low carb for 2 weeks.  I also noticed that when I went from 35 carbs a day to less then 100 a day, I ate less calories over all and I started losing weight again (that surprised me).  You need to keep changing things up to keep your body guessing.

Good luck.
