My portions at (almost) 1 year with pics

I remember when I was a newbie, I saw a post titled "A day in the life of a DSer", courtesy of Kirmy.  She posted pictures of what she was eating.  I loved that post!  I decided to pay it forward and post some of what I eat.  This is NOT a day's worth of food...rather they are just some snap shots of some of my meals to give you an idea of what, and how much I can eat now.

1 poached egg, 3 sausage links.  Ate all but 2 bites of the egg.

Chili with cheese and some crackers.  Ate all of it, but I was pretty full and should have stopped a few bites sooner.

Cheeseburger and bacon 'pie' (similar to a quiche, but has bisquick in it).  1 pickle spear.  Ate all the pickle, and all but 2-3 bites of the pie.  This is another one where I over ate a little and was pretty full.

4 sausage links (drizled with a bit of real maple syrup) and 3 cheese cubes.  Ate it all.

1/2 BLT.  At it all...and it was GOOD!  I believe there were 3.5 slices of bacon on it.  I also ate another 3-4 slices of bacon about 30 min later.  I'm one of those freaks that can bread with zero effects.  *sigh*

Turkey lunch meat, pile of mayo, pickle covered in ranch (one of my favorite treats!), and fresh mozzarella balls.  Ate all the turkey and the pickle.  Only ate about 3 cheese balls.  Wasn't super full..just didn't want anymore.

1/2 taco loaded with meat.  Side of sour cream.  This was WAY too much food.  I was full after eating about 1/2.  But I did eat it all over about 30 minutes.  I should have stopped but like they say, "they do surgery on your stomach, not your head".  I -still- struggle with wanting to eat way beyond the point of being physically uncomfortable.  It's something I'm working on.

Hopefully someone will enjoy this the way I enjoyed Kirmy's post.  I should say...I eat WAY more carbs than this shows.  I struggle with carbs daily.  This is just a small snapshot of some of what I put in my mouth.

I overestimate what I eat all of the time, even at 8 years post op.  My hubby is the best judge of how much I can eat.

I was going to say the same thing, my husband knows exactly what I'm able to eat.  I think we still want the whole plate experience.

My hubby has to remind me every time we go to eat somewhere -- do NOT order big!  I'm 5 months post-op and honestly have to say I don't enjoy meals anymore.  I eat because I have to.  Protein first, of course, and after several bites, I'm full.  However I have found I can eat carbs much easier without getting that full feeling, but I do avoid doing that.  I eat buttered popcorn if I haven't had many carbs during the day.  But I'm hoping one day I'll enjoy the food in front of me again.  Just this weekend I have finally gotten a taste and enjoyment back for coffee.  Until then, I hated the taste of it, and I used to be a big time coffee drinker.  So I'm thinking that things shift gradually and even not wanting to eat a lot, at least I'll enjoy food again.  This procedure brings with it a whole new learning experience, both physically and mentally.  No regrets, I love seeing the scale, and the clothing sizes, go down!

Oh Em Gee that looks delicious! I don't think I'm ever going to be able to eat that much in one sitting. But it sure makes me hungry to look at it! Simple Carbs for me are right out. Even a few crackers gives me terrible gas. I'm so glad I never tried the doughnut or chocolate someone suggested to get my stall restarted. I would have been miserable! And everyone around me would have been too, snicker😀

I'm 8 months out and those look like perfectly sized meals to me. I am still amazed at what fills me up and how hard it is to avoid that one extra bite. I manage most times but you are right it is so easy to take that little bit extra. Thanks for the visuals, they all look good.

Thanks for sharing. My new stomach has a mind of its own. Sometimes I can eat somewhat of a meal and others 3 bites and I'm done. I guess its those small stomach times everyone talks about.

I find that it all depends on how dense the food is and how moist it is. Ribs and white chicken fill me up fast, won't eat pork chops even at 7 years out.   Also I can eat more on a day when I am cleaned out better if that makes sense.

I'm 7 weeks post-op and all of these pictures makes me want to barf.  I so much wish I could eat!  I don't know how long this recovery is going to take, and I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever be able to eat again.
