Dumb question about common channel

I thought the same thing. I was wary when I was researching him, but he has papers published and credentials under that name. He's the real deal!
I take my iron in the mid afternoon and give it an hour away from everything on either side. Also, take that real slow. 1 iron capsule the first week, add a secone iron the second week and so forth. Another vitamin that gives folks problems is zinc. If you can isolate that and see if not taking it helps, that may be the problem. Go slow. You can rearrange the Vitalady schedule as needed. Hang in there.

200 cm is a longer than usual common channel, and not what is standard in the USA. Most DS surgeons in the USA either do a 100-150 cm cc, or even 75 cm, and some use the Hess method, in which the length if your small intestine is measured during the surgery and the different limbs are created in accordance with the total length of your intestine.
As far as your vitamins, you really don't need to worry this early out as your body has stores to tide you over til your stomach feels better. After that, get going right away, and then use your labs to determine how much you should be taking. There really is no other way to know if you are taking enough, not enough, or too much.

Ah, this explains a lot! I have the video of my surgery. He does measure my entire small intestine. I wish I could have done the surgery in the US so I could talk to my surgeon to understand everything. Thank you for posting this!
With a 200CC you probably won't have too many issues with deficiencies. You will also need to take full advantage of your window to drop as much weight as you want to lose. But everyone is different, wait for your labs to tell the real story. In the beginning, try to get in your multis, calcium, and D. Then work up to adding everything else.
In the everyone is different category, my CC is 75 and I never got to goal and I have never needed infusions or had severe deficiencies.
I do my iron all at night rather than deal with trying to space them out through the day. It's easier for me to schedule that way and all I have to worry about is what I might have snacked on in the evening before bed. I take mine with chewable C. The taste helps if there are any iron breath issues as the capsules dissolve. I usually have some kind of protein so as to not have it on an empty stomach but not always.

Good idea. I considered that but if I don't get enough protein during the day, I have protein shakes to make up for what I missed. The shakes are dairy based.
So not an expert here but if you are talking about 100% whey I don't think it has the part of dairy that interferes with iron absorption. I'm pretty sure you would be OK but maybe some of the more knowledgeable vets will chime in about this. If it is some other kind you are probably right.
I'm not sure where your final vits are in your schedule but if you need the protein shake at night maybe you could do it 2 hours before bed and then be OK to take the iron last??? It does make kind of a scheduling nightmare. It gave me problems early on because the NUT had me on a multi with iron and trying to get that in between calcium and problem foods drove me crazy. That's why I finally broke them out.
