Is it supposed to be this bad in the beginning?
So..DS was 12/4 as expected really hard time with anesthesia and nauseous through the 5th. At home now and I just feel like crap - and that's nice. I've had my gallbladder out and a total hysterectomy that started lap and went to open and never felt this bad. There is so much pressure I feel like even water is filling, though I am getting that in. Protein - very little. I can't tolerate the flavors of the shakes and my ADEK chewables are awful. I can do cottage cheese that I blended and some yogurt that I mix with blended strawberry preserves and fresh strawberries but that is such a small amount. I think I am pushing my sleeve (which is 60cc) because I feel so much pressure after just a small amount of anything - I am using a toddler spoon and usually get in 3 bites. I wake up sick and feel horrid by night time. I think I am an idiot for intentionally putting myself through this. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?
Yes, it's bad in the beginning! I found that dehydration is what made me feel so crappy. Day 12 for me was so awful and I was feeling sorry for myself.
It will get better! By week 3, I was feeling semi-normal. And by week 8, I was feeling 100% back to normal.
Make sure to get your water in. That's the most important right now. As far as protein, concentrate on getting 30-60-90. That's 30 in the first month, 60 in your second month and 90 by your third month.
Hang in there!!

Thanks AmyLuca! I just got off the phone with my Dr - and the suggested egg drop soup and egg white protein powder. Said to stop my ADEKs for now if they are that bad - a few days won't hurt. I am drinking 3-4 16 oz cups of water a day but each sip feels like it piles on top of the last. She said that was normal as well.
It's pretty bad the first week but it usually gets much better pretty quickly after that. Are you on an antacid? You might want to talk to your surgeon about that when you see him. Stay hydrated and put protein and vitamins as secondary goals.
You know how some say we took the easy way out. Thing about punching them in the throat. ; )

I had my surgery on a Wednesday and had to be back at work Tuesday! I managed but thought I was going to pass out from exhaustion and dehydration. Per the above information from others, hydrate and hydrate more! I found that the only thing I could get down was homemade chicken broth and it sustained me for the first few weeks. Then I was able to tolerate other liquids. While it's important to get 30g of protein in the first thirty days, you need to work towards this goal so that by the last day of the first month you're able to get down 30g with no problem.
You WILL feel better and the buyer's remorse will be a feeling of the past! Per Amy Luca, it did take me at least two months to feel more like myself. Take things slowly and give yourself a brea****il your body catches up to the drastic changes.
