Malabsorption and prescription meds

Does anyone have any insight to share about how prescription meds or any meds, like biotin, for example, are affected by our malabsorption? Should I be taking a higher dose of biotin?

On a somewhat related note, surgery was almost 2 weeks ago. I haven't lost hair yet, but I understand that usually happens around the three month mark. Any tips on avoiding or at least recovering from hair loss?

As far as RX meds, I just make sure to tell my PCP that I can't take extended release meds. Usually there is an immediate release option that is uncoated. I also make sure to break some things like my RX Heme iron in half, so they dissolve faster and have a better chance of absorbing.

As for the hair loss, truthfully there isn't much we can do about it. It happens around 6 weeks to 3 months after surgery requiring an anesthetic, as well as pregnancy. It can also happen from stress or illness. I just bided my time after each of my 3 hair loss episodes. Usually when hair starts to grow back, it looks a bit strange, but I'd just get some layers or side swept bangs cut in to hide it a little better. Also, yours may hit while it's still colder weather and hats are always fun!

The hair thing just happens.  Some people loose very little, I lost a lot.  The volume dropped in half.   And it started dropping out at 4 months.  And I took boat loads of biotin.  If I had to do it all over again, I don't think I would have bought the biotin.  I didn't see where it helped me at all.

Then it started growing back in about 4 months later.  I did cut my hair short to hide all the new stuff coming in.

used it, expensive, really didn't help much.  Almost everyone will lose hair.  It is a result of anesthetic, major surgery, the assault on the body, the hormonal surges, the ketosis, the stress, etc, etc.  But the hair is falling out because it is being pushed out by new hair from underneath which will replace it in time.

telogen effluvium is the clinical name - Google it for more information

prepare by finding styles that minimize the appearance of loss.  Consider hats or wigs.  It is temporary
