I am brand spanken new to the DS body since my surgery was only 3 weeks ago BUT maybe the little I have picked up will help you along....

My number one tip would be to give yourself the time you need to heal. The weeks following surgery need to be about YOU and only you... Rest,Drink, walk and take your vitamins. Plan ahead and have people ready to do the stuff around the house you normally do. Take the help when offered! Good Luck!

Find companies that have the vitamins you need and don't be afraid to ask for samples. I take chewables as I have a hard time swallowing pills before, and I knew it would be worse now. I would have wasted soooo much money on vitamins that simply taste disgusting. My favorite is Wellesse. They are liquid vitamins, and taste really good! Plus they are cheap!

#1 - hydration, every day, from day one

#2 - protein from food as quickly as you can tolerate

Find a liquid you can tolerate, and drink it all day long!  I struggled with drinking, and landed in the ER getting 2 bags of fluids.  My bill was about $950....all because I hadn't found something I could tolerate.  After that, I got smarter and sampled EVERYTHING.  I found that super hot decaf tea with lemon worked for me.  Cold or room temp liquids did not sit well.  I started drinking piping hot tea all day long, and that's when the clouds parted and I actually started feeling like I was healing instead of just surviving.

Thank you for the tips!  They help a lot.  I'm curious as to why water didn't work for you?  Does it upset your stomach? Or just too full to make yourself drink it?
