ANNOUNCEMENT: DSFacts.com Update
DSFacts.com site is now supported by a volunteer “editorial board” composed of Drs. Ara Keshishian, John Rabkin and Gary Anthone, and other professionals with medical, scientific and legal credentials.
DSFacts.com is a static (non-interactive) site. It will continue to be non-commercial, and to not accept advertisements either for doctors, products or services. It will continue to not have a discussion board. The editorial board intends to update the site, including the surgeons list, as frequently as deemed necessary and as quickly as reasonable under the cir****tances (i.e., considering that that they are all volunteers with jobs, family, and other responsibilities).
Importantly, the DSFacts editorial board has decided that the surgeons list will be controlled solely by the members of the editorial board who are not DS surgeons. Inclusion on or exclusion from the surgeons list is at the sole discretion of the DSFacts editorial board.
Thus, the surgeons list will continue to be a subjective list, and will include DS surgeons whom the editorial board, at their subjective discretion, and based in part on anecdotal reports from other DS patients, feels comfortable listing as DS surgeons sufficiently known and endorsed by the DS community to be included.
The editorial board also will continue to expand the coverage of the site to include more evidence-based scientific studies and summaries regarding the DS, comparisons with other surgeries, nutritional guidance, and documents for appealing denials.
The website is intended to be a “non-controversial” repository of information about the DS. It is not meant to replace any other site, and the editorial board hopes that other obesity-related sites that serve other needs (such as weightlosssurgery.proboards.com, Facebook and ObesityHelp) will continue to allow links to DSFacts for informational purposes. The editorial board will not be monitoring the site closely, nor engaging in dialog with the public – again, the website is intended to be a static informational site.
If you have suggestions for information, contributions to the information you would like to see posted, or other input, please feel free to post to the “suggestion” box on the DSFacts site. And please continue to refer potential and post-op DS patients to the site, with even more confidence in the relevance of the information that is posted there.
