Suggestions for lowering PTH?

All's good with my labs except a couple of areas.  The PTH remaining at 82 is the main concern.  I have been diligent on my calcium (calcium citrate 500 mg x4 spread throughout the day) and my vitamin D has gone from 29 to 57 yay (thanks to Vitalady's dry D 50,000 ui -- I take 100,000ui per day)!  However, I can not seem to get my PTH to come down. My doctors *****fuse to understand the DS just assume I'm lying about my calcium intake!  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Also, I'm positive for H Pylori.  How dangerous is this?

Thanks!!!

have you checked the dosage on the calcium? Are you sure one tablet is 500 mg or is two tablets 500 mg? If the dosage is two tabs for 500 mg,you are only getting half as much as you think you are.

Only other thing I have is maybe switching to another brand,or maybe. A capsule or breaking the tabs in half for better absorption?

Check to make sure on your calcium like Hollykim suggests. Also adding K2 and boron to your calcium doses helps with absorption of the calcium.

Thanks so much Leanonme.  I'm taking vitamin K but I'll also try to add boron.

h.pylori is The bacteria that is shown to cause ulcers,so getting it treated right away is the key. Once it is Killed ,it is,of course no longer a danger.

Dangerous if not treated, not so much  if treated.

Thanks Hollykim.  I am taking UPcal 500 mg calcium citrate packates.  I just mix in a drink or food every few hours instead of swallowing pills.  Perhaps I'll try another brand.

A D level of 57 is just acceptable...the closer you are to 100 the better. Try taking 3 D3 a day for awhile and then get your PTH retested.

A high PTH indicates you are not getting enough D & calcium and therefore your body is stealing calcium from bones, teeth, etc.

I took another (3 total) vitamin D today.  I know I'm getting enough calcium.  Hopefully my number will drop by next time.

The only thing I've ever had to do to get my PTH down is increase calcium/magnesium

One trick I have is to use  Liquid Cal/Mag to get it down,,, I use LIfetime, but there are many brands to choose from..and then continue with my normal Calcium/Magnesium Citrate.  The ratio is 1:1...one calcium capsule, one magnesium capsule, and I also add 50,000 IU Vit. D twice a day. The combination of those is important. They catalyze each other.  You can also add zinc, or take it by itself.

I have found that the tablets you can get OTC anywhere are less effective than Calcium Citrate capsules along with Magnesium Citrate capsules, even when I cut the tablets into quarters, to help them dissolve quicker...gives the stomach acid less bulk to eat through.  I'm not sure why that is - but I have switched to capsules. If you don't like warm beverages, you can drink something acidic, like orange juice or lemonade (real lemon juice, not Country Time) to help them dissolve.

I also follow my vites/minerals with a warm drink - coffee or tea - to help them dissolve.

I have had a hard time with calcium the entire time I've had my DS, and that's the only really hard work I've had to do with my supplements.   Perhaps it's because I'm a "lady of a certain age"?  Perhaps it's a variation in my configuration, I'm really not sure...but I'll do what I have to do to keep from hearing the word "revision".

I have had PTH come back over 100 in the past..I've been diagnosed osteopenic, but my next labs will be done within the next week...as I'm about to have LBL/thighplasty, so that will tell the tale.  I've already got my vitamin bags packed up for the hospital.  I never give them to the nurses...I always keep them in my bag, with my pill cutter.  Can't trust the medicos to give them to me the right way!  I learned that from a few years ago when I was in with pneumonia. Spent a couple months behind that getting my levels back to normal!

I don't know anything about H. Pylori, other than it's not something you want roaming around your digestive tract.

PS- I apologize to anyone on the board who is in the medical field that I may have offended by my statement, but it's just truth - they just don't get the DS!

Thanks JazzyOne!  Great suggestions.  I'll do not take magnesium with the calcium so I will start doing.  I've already upped my D (from 100,000iu to 150,000iu daily) and calcium (from 2,000 to 3,000).  I looked at Lifetime liquid and am ordering.  Keeping my fingers crossed!
