Am I overeating?

Hi All,

I'm almost 18 months out and still have a good 40-50lbs to lose. Anyway, I've been able to eat A LOT, and recently I'm addicted to sugar and carbs. I am wondering if I'm eating too much? So here's a typical day if I don't cheat and eat bread/cookies/sugary stuff:

Morning:

Protein coffee with lowcarb milk, heavy cream and SF syrup

4 sunnyside up eggs and 4 slices of Canadian bacon

Snack:

half a cup of salsa almonds or peanuts

Lunch:

Depending on the day, mostly 8-piece chicken nuggets and a protein style (no bun, lettuce only) chick-fil-a sandwich

or 4 ribs and 4oz sliced brisket or sausage

Snack:

more nuts and/or low carb yogurt (carbmaster)

Sometimes I also add a premier protein shake

Dinner: (usually something from Costco)

8 chicken wings + 2 slices of Tilapia

or 8~10oz steak + (4-6) bacon wrapped scallop

protein coffee or vitamin water (SF)

salad with blue-cheese dressing

Snack:

maybe another protein shake, yogurt or an orange

So with the amount of food above, am I overeating? I definitely can eat like someone who's never done the surgery before....and I think I eat a lot more than most girls and maybe even guys!! I've also gained 5-10lbs in the last 3 weeks but I think it's due to the heavy snacking on carbs. I need to quit!! But just based on the protein stuff I am eating above, is it considered going overboard? I am doing that almsot daily!! I will start posting with majormom's daily eats tomorrow. I already started today with a large white mocha....yikes!

Happy Friday All!

PS I think I have an emotional eating issue going on...and still addicted to food...*sigh*

At dinner and breakfast are you eating and drinking at the same time?  Try to avoid doing those at the same time.  I know it can get REALLY frustrating.  NOT TO WORRY we will help you through this!  I might suggest eating bulkier foods that might sit better.  Grilled chicken vs. fried as the chicken nuggests and chick fil a stuff is all breaded.   While we can tolerate higher amounts of fat, fat still does not stay in the system very long and will not keep us full for very long.  Keep an eye on the TYPE of protein that you are eating.  Also, track EVERYTHING in myfitnesspal or fitday.com.  You will be shocked at how many calories things contain.  Keep an eye on hidden calories, carbs and sugar.

Of course PLEASE feel free to Private Message me ANYTIME if I can be of assistance.

Keep on keepin on friend! You will get through this!!!

Even if you are only eating protein and fat, the balance can shift and you won't be malabsorbing enough to compensate for the amount of food. If you consistently add carbs through the week, I think it's going to be hard to reach a lower goal. Please be careful not to stretch out your sleeve.

I just posted this the other day to someone else. Keep in mind Im only six months out myself. I have read where people drink protein shakes for a week to shrink their sleeves, so that they feal fuller faster again. Im still at the take a few bites and gag stage. Unfortunatly, mostly when I try and eat solid protein, like meats. I am one of the ones that really uses the protein drinks in order to get in all of my protein. I feel what I get in by eating is secondary. That's just the way its going to be for me for now, because of the gagging. Part of me likes it because it keeps me in line. You do what you have to do to get the protein in. I feel like you have stretched out your sleeve. Im not judging when I say that, please don't feel like I am. It just seems like your able to eat a lot, and Im sure you came here because you want to hear the truth. I really believe you can turn this around.... Im just as anxious to hear what others have to say about this...People that know a lot more, and have more experience then myself. Keep your chin up, and stay positive... This site isn't going anywhere...We are here for you...

I'm less than 4 months out, so the amount of food you are eating seems like A LOT to me. I get stuffed after 1 scrambled egg and 2 pieces of bacon. Sometimes I cannot finish 3 ounces of meat in one sitting.

I imagine that I'll be able to eat more once I'm 18 months out, too. But only when I've reached goal and I'm in maintenance. I have also decided to leave out the sugar/carbs until I've hit goal.

I've heard that you will crave more carbs the more carbs you eat. I would go back to eliminating the carbs from your diet (at least the non-fiber carbs).

I'm sure people who are further out can help you out more than I have.

Good luck!

Hi All,

Yeah, I am pretty sure I stretched out my stomach. I was eating meat I think either the 2nd or 3rd week post surgery. Very small amounts but I was able to do it. Cannot eat a full egg for at least 6 months but now look at what I am eating.

I'm gonna try a modified protein shake diet to see how it works. I also am thinking about counting the calories using DS math. I know DSers don't count calories but I'll  try it out, also with increased exercise.

Thank you so much for all of your kind advices and words....and no, I don't get offended easily at all! I like the truth and that's the only way I can figure things out. :)

I'm 5.5 years out and can't eat that much.  I do eat 6-7 small meals a day.  2 hot dogs and I'm good for an hour or two.  I did eat a plate of meat at Golden Corral last night.  But I was there almost 90 min.  The piece of fudge pushed me over my full limit.

I would hazard a guess that the carbs/sweets you are addicted to have far more to do with your inability to get to goal and /or weight gain than the protein you are eating.  I am seven plus years out, and probably eat that much in one day, and I don't start gaining until the carbs are added in to the picture.

So, your post hits close to home. Our surgeon does make our sleeves bigger than some. I've been told that by his office that he ALWAYS does a 46 fb, for every patient. Since about a year out, my capacity has been very bothersome to me. I stick to about 6 small meals a day, but when I was pregnant, I had to eat carbs and found that the more carbs I ate, the more I craved them and my appetite was crazy. I also never got to goal, I have some other issues like PCOS, which could've been a big contender in having a hard time getting to where I wanted. For the last 6 months I have been going back to basics and trying to stay under 20 carbs a day. I'm frustrated, but I'm on a mission. I get fuller faster in just protein and veggies and I'm surprised at how much less I eat when carbs aren't involved. I think they are addictive. I would say that yes, based on what we are able to eat is more than others with smaller sleeves, I've heard of many other dSers who have 3-4 oz fully recovered. Dr. Simper told me that my sleeve would be 6-8 oz fully recovered. I also know that they can stretch, so I'm really wondering how big my sleeve is now. My advice is to cut the carbs BIG TIME, especially since you might still be in the window of weight loss. The further you are out, the more the sleeve stretches and adaption happens and we are able to absorb more. It's better to cut the carbs sooner rather than later! Myfitnesspal has been so great for me, it let's me see what's really going on with my eating on a daily basis. Thinking of you...
