Hi everyone ,

im in a lurker but I'm writing with some concern. I am a 35 year old male and 6'2".

I've been big all my life and had DS on June 24th. I was 350 on the day of surgery and am now at 239. This feels way to fast.

overall I feel ok. At one point I wasn't getting enough protein and felt week, that was brief.

Am am I losing too much?

I know men tend to lose a lot faster than women. You are probably right on track but it is worrying. Hang on tight and go as low as your body lets you as fast as you can. Bounce back after you hit your lowest goal weight is real and can happen within the first 3 years. True bounce back is small but regain can start within 5 years if you don't curb the carbs. Weight gain is real so let your body do its thing, keep your protein up and over 150+ grams a day and stay up on your vitamins.  This is a process and unless things go terribly crazy just hang in there. :)

I've been told to keep my protein around 90g and that I'm a bit ahead of schedule. 150g? Holy crap!!!!

100-150 grams is easy if you add a couple shakes in there a day. =) Protein coffee for breakfast...yumm

We malabsorb about 50% of the protein we eat. If a normie is supposed to have 70 or so grams, I think you can do the math.  ;)

It sounds OK to me. Just that you are doing well. Have you had your first set of postop labs yet? Those will be the real key. It is fast but I don't think it's an issue. Congrats on doing so well.

We both started at 350 on surgery day. My surgery was on 5/14/13, one month and ten days before you and I am at 240 right now. I think your doing well, and like Major Mom says your a guy so you are going to loose a little faster. Try not to worry, and try and enjoy the process. Its interesting about the worrying part because my last ten pounds really fell off, and Im really starting to look so different, and it kind of scared me when I got down into the 240's. Its such a different world. Ive said to people lately, how my goal was 150, and I know Im still considered overweight by most, but I look and feel so darn good, that if I didn't loose another pound I would probably be ok with it. For now I will leave my goal of 150 posted but I have to say I don't know If I really want to get to that size. Maybe more like 165 or 170. Ive decided to just pray, and accept what God and this surgery gives me. Im just already sooo greatful and happy. The hairloss is another thing...uhg. Im not so accepting of that....lol Just another part of the process I guess....

That is good to know, thank you so much for replying, dustycroy. I do feel great. I run around on the basketball court and am living a totally different life. I'm worried about EATING enough and not too much. My kids are young and enjoying the new me too. They may not even remember that I was a big ole dude when they grow up.

I really was hoping I would end up in the 200 pound range honestly, but as I read the rest of the responses - even if I end up down to 170 (i'm 6'2) I will probably gain a little bit back.

Either way Thank you to everyone for responding. I'm trying to shove the protein down my throat. We'll see how it works out.

No worries.  Lose as much as you can as fast as you can.  It does stop.  You should probably increase your protein.
