Aw, that's nice.  We had 2 minutes' silence on the plane home yesterday as we tend to do the nearest Sunday in the UK (we have special church services all around the country and they lay poppy wreaths in town/village squares).  The pilot made the announcement about the 2 minutes' silence and then he said 'thank you' at the end.

I quickly popped out in the rain to get my Subway chicken salad... I miss Tunisia and want it to be Friday already!! ;-)

I think it's even more special in the UK where the Royal family members serve in a branch of the military and even the Queen during WWII.

Try to persevere and have a reasonably good week. Looks like you're right back on the straight and narrow Bites wise.

Yes Brits are quite into poppies. Are poppies used as a symbol in the US? For example pretty much all news readers wear them in November in the run up to 11/11. All the Royal family each wear one in the run up too.

Poppies are given when a donation is made to a vets' charity - The Royal British Legion.

I think this is the first year I recall hearing of the poppy as a symbol. I've seen them posted today and yesterday and didn't make the connection. We put little American flags out everywhere and some towns have parades where Veterans of Foreign Wars march in formation. I'm going to Google the poppy tradition and see how it started.

Google says Americans use the poppy as a symbol for Memorial Day honoring America's war dead, which is in May. This is your Remembrance Day and the poppy is a symbol for your war dead. So we both use the poppy as a symbol to honor our war dead, just on different days.

Thanks, Gail. It was an honor to serve and I had a great career.

I'm glad you're feeling better. You probably needed time and rest.
