Solgar Liquid Vitamin D3

I picked up the Solgar Liquid Vitamin D3 at Sprouts. I now remember we don't absorb a lot of fat, but does this count as "fat" since it's oil? Am I not absorbing the D3? The ingredients are just 'sunflower seed oil, and natural orange flavor'. I got it because I read someone (that posted on here) said they use the spray vitD. Am I not getting any benefit from this product (since it's oil) and I'm supposed to have a dry form? I'm so confused.
Thanks!

Sunflower oil is going to malabsorb. Sorry. Get a capsule of dry powder or pressed pill. We still need big doses. Check Vitalady, Amazon or BioTechPharm for the 50,000 IU capsules.

There's also a sublingual by Superior Source. It's only 10,000 IU but better than an oil based. Vitalady carries it but I'm guessing you could find them on other sites as well.

Wow! Thanks for the reply! I'll try to return this to Sprouts (I have the receipt) and get some dry form. I have the ProHealth D3 Extreme (which is 50,000iu) that I ordered from Amazon. I was just scared of taking it daily because it seems so high (so I take it once a week). Is it okay to take daily if our VitD is low? I had my Vit D-3 checked 1 year ago and it was 26. My pcp said it should be at least 30 at the lowest. I'll have insurance in Jan 2014 so I'll get all my labs done again (obviously) but right now I'm guessing I'm still low.
Do you know the brand I'm talking about (ProHealth)? Is it a good one for us DSers?
Thanks so much!

50,000 IUs of dry D3 is pretty standard for DSrs and some have to take 100,000 IUs or more a day to bring up low levels. Dry D3 is different from the oil based D2 prescribed by docs, it's not going to hurt you. Just check your labs as you're supposed to. A D3 lab around 100 is awesome. Anything over 70 is what you need.

I've used BioTech and Vitalady for 6 years so I don't know the other brands.

Can you get vitamin D injections to help bring it up while you find a better tablet?

Amy, your ProHealth D3 is the right one to take, but I would not buy it because it is really expensive. You can get the same for a lot less at vitalady or biotech or get it on Amazon. At least the biotech comes in 100's and not just 24 or them.
You need to take at least one of those every day. If your vitamin D is not high enough you will also not absorb enough calcium for your bones.

ProHealth D3 Extreme barely gives you enough in one bottle for one daily.  Since I am deficient in Vitamin D, I take 100,000 IU of Bio-Tech daily.  I will have blood rechecked for the deficiencies I have (Zinc, D, and Calcium) to see if my levels have come back up in about 2 weeks.  I also just discovered that a prescription drug I take "eats" Vitamin D, so that could be the problem.

Pro Health is expensive for DS needs.  You can find Bio-Tech D3/50,00IU on Amazon.  Actually , Bio-Tech make s all the fat soluble vitamins in dry form.  They can be more expensive, but in the D3, for instance, you get 100 capsules per bottle. You might have to do a little hunting to find them all, but they can be had!

Good Luck!

Amy-

In some states, Like mine the highest  Vitamin D you can buy over the counter is 5,000 IU, and OTC dry is very hard to come by  in  a brick and mortar retail store at any potency.

Try ordering from Vitalady, look on eBay and Amazon. That's where I've had the most luck finding Dry ADEK's ( yes all of those have to be dry form, because they are all fat soluble vitamins.)

Thanks everyone! I immediately went on Amazon to order some but I'm confused about the bottle. The front says D3-50, but the dose on the back says 50,000iu. Can someone explain that (before I buy it)?
