1 loop DS

Hey friends!!!

This is my 1st post so please be nice! So I read a post about a 1 loop DS and I wonder if that is what I have. I asked my surgeon on the day of surgery how long my common channel will be and he told me 300 cm (kinda shocked me!). He explained he connects things differently but that it would really decrease my chances of complications down the road. I nearly died from complications from the crap band so that sounded fantastic to me. Anyway, I am only 5 weeks out and have lost 45 pounds so I am happy and things have gone well for me. Is what I got a 1 loop DS and if not what is a 1 loop DS?

I haven't heard of it. You might want to ask him to draw you a diagram of your configuration with any measurements that might be there or other pertinent information another medical professional might need..

He did draw a diagram for me - but it was right before I was wheeled into surgery so I didn't keep it. That is a good idea to have in case another doctor needs to know about my innards (I hadn't thought about that). On another time he wanted me to have the doctors call him, ER or primary care - but that is kind of scary if he isn't readily available. Thanks for the insight!

My dr wants to do the one loop DS bc he feels that is the same with weight loss and has less complications in the long term. It is the single anastomosis duodenal bypass with sleeve gastrictomy . Dr. Roslin is giving me a choice between the one loop DS or traditional DS. I have not decided which way to go but I have emailed him today with some questions/concerns and he responded. I am having my surgery on December 3 so I have sometime to decide. Congratulations on your weight loss.

Definitely get a copy of your surgical notes and a diagram of your designer guts---you'll need it on down the road.

This is also the first I've heard of this hybrid.  You have a lot of questions to ask. How many has he done?  How far post-op are the patients?  Are they at goal...and for how long?  He "feels" it may give you the same weight loss, but does he have data to support it?  If it's a hunch and something new, then you get to decide if you want to be in the string of guinea pigs or not.  Another thing to throw in is whether or not this procedure will be approved by insurance, and if it doesn't work, can you get revised?  Just make sure you're going into it with eyes wide open.

I personally would NOT consent to this experimental procedure. We KNOW how the traditional DS works, and we KNOW that the old loop bypass had a lot of problems. Just say no. (*grin*)

The loop DS is the Single anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S).  It is based on the biliopancreatic diversion in which a sleeve gastrectomy is followed by an end-to-side duodeno-ileal diversion.

Thank you!!! That is very interesting!!! I am pretty sure that is what I have. The study results made me very happy - I was slightly worried my weight loss wouldn't live up to the traditional DS expectations. :) anyway thanks for the great link! It is very much appreciated :)

p.s. It is fun to find a fellow Utahn on here !!! :)
