Hello all... I have been reading and researching for some time but had yet to post...This week I was given to green light for DS and will be having surgery on  Nov 12th. I am excited and nervous and trying to prepare. Looking forward to better health. I have a condition that causes pain in my joints (Ankylosing spondylitis) and I know this surgery will change my life! Any other with ankylosing spondylitis here that have had DS? (just wondering)  I am also looking forward to running and playing more with my 5 year old twins!!

Any advice for a new gal on the block pacing the OR door?

Thanks for reading...

Congratulations on your upcoming date. I have not had surgery yet. I am right behind where you are at in the process. My story is convoluted, but I hope to schedule in next couple of weeks. I keep thinking... This time next year I will be able to...sounds like you are too.... I have a young child and am eager to be able to be more active with him too... The stories and photos on this website are very inspiring and motivational.

Congrats and welcome!  My biggest regret regarding my DS was not finding this board until after.  Read read read....lots to learn.  The 12th will be here before you know it!

Hi Miranda!  WELCOME.  I'm a newbie but the advice I have is that it'll be rough the first couple of months but after that you'll be saying "I love my DS" too!

First goal 120.0: 12/7/13  Final goal 115.0 (114.6):  2/6/14

 5'3  SW: 199 (12/11/11)  Current: 114.8 pounds  18% body fat   BMI: 20.3

Thanks everyone! My sister had the DS last May and is down 150 and at goal so I have seen first hand how wonderful it can be... I Love reading all the post and success stories. The only thing I feel a bit overwhelmed about is the hospital stay and being away from my "babies" (5 year old twins) .... and the vitamin stuff seems a bit confusing BUT I know I will get it sooner or later... My sister follows Vita Lady so I have been reading and researching it all... The 12th will be here soon.... EEK

Congrats :)

I have twins who are 4, and even though I'm only a little more than a month out, I think they can tell I'm not as slow :)

They encourage me on my bike, they call it my Rock'n Ride, and always tell me " Mommy your winning!!"

You will see they are the best cheerleaders.

Good luck to you!

Susan.. How sweet! Love it! I have talked to my twins about  the surgery and how my body will change but I will still be mommy. My son said "I like you comfy" apparently my chub chub has been a nice cuddle spot for him glad the chub gave him a soft  spot to fall BUT I am eager to get it gone for the first time in my life. Been overweight since my early teens...

:) I told him that I will be able to play more and ride a bike with him... That made him smile. My daughter seems okay with it just asking lots of questions :)
