I am scheduled for my DS on Halloween. I have read and read and read and have bought everything I can possibly think of that I may need just trying to be prepared. Is there anything that those of you who have already gone thru this process can think of that I should know or be prepared for? It's going to be done laparoscopically with the davinci robot.

One thing I noticed people do not think about is ....I would rent a lift recliner to sleep in. You can rent one for about 90 dollars for a month. It hurts to sleep on your back in your bed or even on your side. Recliner is perfect and the lift part really helps you keep from hurting yourself. I rented one and it was a godsend. =)

Good luck on your surgery.

I actually bought a lift chair in anticipation of my surgery. (I looked into renting one, but I'm really short and the only ones I could find that were available for rental were HUGE and didn't feel that comfortable.)

I had been wanting to buy a recliner anyway, so this was a perfect excuse. I bought it on Amazon for $589 with 6-months no interest.

I slept in that chair for about 3-4 weeks after my surgery. It was a lifesaver! (My bedroom is upstairs and I did not want to have to go up and down those stairs all the time during my recovery.)

Rent one if you can! :)

I'm a Halloween DS baby too!  well....8 years ago Halloween.

My biggest advice is to not overpack.  I had all kinds of crap in the bag, and only pulled out the chapstick and a brush.  I was too listless to read, and the nurses gave me all of the basics I needed, from an extra gown to use as a robe to toothbrush and toothpaste.  One thing I do wish I'd brought was some decent shampoo and a blow dryer for when I finally had the chance to shower.  My baby-fine hair just didn't look good air-dried....or a hat would have worked too.

Make sure you do all your housecleaning before surgery.  I mean DEEP cleaning, fresh linens on the bed, get rid og the "dust bunnies", mop and wax floors, get all the dirt out of crevices along the baseboards, etc.

No medical reason for this...just that you won't feel like or be able to do heavy housework for a while post-op, and for me, it just made me feel better coming home to a pristine house after surgery!

If you don't already, get into a frequent walking/sipping/deep breathing routine.  Also practice going to the restroom, even when you think its only gas.

I went to a spa the day before surgery. The pampering really helped me to relax and eased some of the anxiety.

Best wishes on surgery and recovery!!!
