Sensible Vit D Injection Dose & What to Say @ Hematology Referral
My PCP has said she'll get me a vitamin D injection but she doesn't know what's a sensible dose and she's concerned that it can become toxic if it gets too high. In my July labs it was 23.4 and should be between 32-100. I've been doing 50,000 iu dry vitamin D and recently upped it to 100,000 iu.
My PCP is also going to refer me to a hematologist next month due to my lowish ferritin. Last labs it was 44 and should be between 20-380. It's trending down and I want to catch it before it's below range. Does anyone have any advice when I see the hematologist? I need something persuasive to convince them to help as them doing nothing is still an option and oral iron isn't doing much for me. BTW I do take it an hour away from dairy/nuts.
TIA

I want to say Dr Stewart here in the US used to give those. Maybe one of his patients knows. 600-something is tickling my brain.

Thanks - I'll see what frequency I can get too as I'm sure that'll affect the dose.

I have been getting the VitD3 injections for a couple years. I would suggets 300K and test in 3 months. I have used 300K, 450K and 600K. it is not so much the dose as the dose and how often. I am currently on 450K 3xs a year.
what are you taking for iron? you didn't post your iron panel so dosing will not be correct...suggest requesting the RX proferrin forte, i have been taking that for years, highly absorbable, gentle. I take 2-3 tablets/day. My hem/onc was going to put my on iron infusion before this RX...
I take 420mg of ferrous furmarate a day plus 1 x 60mg Tender Iron as any more gives me cramps. I was told that that's the only iron that's available on RX over here although maybe the hematologist will have more options available than my PCP.
Hopefully my labs are OK below otherwise they're also available here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33417203/Lab_Tracking.xls

I saw a hematologist when my ferritan was in the 4-7 range for years. He advised me too get an iron infusion anytime it dropped down to 20. At last check, mine was 80 and dropping
I'll see if I can get hold of my consultant to see what he suggests re vit D. I just wanted to have an idea of what a sensible number and thanks to Airbender, 300K sounds like a good starting point.
You must've felt awful with ferritin down at 4 - I just don't want to wait 'til I get there... we'll see how it goes.
