Which DS surgeon did you use and are you happy with your DS today?

Dr Roslin in NYC. No Complications (knock wood) at 6 weeks out now.

Don't expect him to hold  your hand and comfort you.... but i am basically as good as new at 6 weeks out! A surgeon should be chosen on reputation and results... not bedside manner.

I would 100% do a DS with him again.

That's wonderful. I know what you mean about not choosing a surgeon by bedside manner. How long was your surgery, if you don't mind my asking and did he do it laproscopically?

Mine was laparoscopic yes :) it was supposed to take 2-3 hours it took him a little longer with me about 31/2 hours... He was going to do the single intestine incision way ... But it wasn't working out with my layout so he went with the dual incision way (the traditional way) sorry I don't know the more technical terms.

Dr. Roslin recommends the right surgeries as well ... When I told him I have pcos and wanted the vsg ... He said have you thought about the Ds? Recommended against the band ... And never mentioned the rny.  Of course I did my own research and ultimately made my own decision...but after reading up his recommendation was a really good one for someone with pcos. He has been performing gastric surgeries for something like over 20 years and has a great reputation... Says a lot... I can have my mom hold my hand...leave the harder stuff to the surgeon.

Hi there,

I'm 4 yrs out. No complications. High weight 352, today 160. My surgeon is the fabulous Dr. Fernando Bonanni @ Abington Memorial just outside Philadelphia PA.

no regrets. So very glad I did this for myself.

Wow! You have done fabulously!  If you don't mind my asking, how long was your surgery and how long did it take you to recover?

Surgery was 6hrs. I am a slow healer. Always have been. I remember reading others were ready to rock at 4-6 weeks out. I took 8 weeks off work.
In 6 months I was feeling pretty good and it just got better each month. Hated being lactose and gluten intolerant, but that only lasted a year and was easy to get around.

I will chime in here with my 2 cents. I am a revision from a failed  RNY that I had 7 years ago. Had my DS done  March 19th so I am almost 7 months out and have lost approx.73lbs. I am an average loser but am ok with it. I am retired military so had my surgery done at Madigan Army Medical Center by Dr. Preston Carter. I love my surgeon- he' been doing bariatric surgery for many years and says he only wishes he knew back then what he knows now as he feels the DS is the platinum of all bariatric surgeries- its the most successful in the long term. I had zero complications, a normal recovery- just have to have a hernia repair done which is common. I had a lot of problems with the RNY- it aggravated a lot of my food intolerances and made them worse, I had heartburn and acid reflux. I also had a lot of stomach issues along with terrible constipation. All of those things have gone away since the DS.

My channel is 120 so I don't have a lot of issues with malapsorption- I have had a few low numbers - vit D, K and A and a low ferriten along with a low protein BUT they are barely under normal so am working at getting them back up to the normal level. I feel great and have absolutely no regrets- just wish I had done it sooner as I feel I lost out on some very precious years but I am trying to make up for those now.

Hello sunshine!

I had my surgery 4/29/13 with Dr Gintas Antanavicius at Abington (PA) Hospital.  I have lost 89 lbs, and am 21 lbs from (my) goal...too complicated for me to figure out EWL.  Surgery took 4 hours.  I returned to work after 6 weeks.  Just now, starting to feel like "myself".

So very happy to have had Dr.Kemmeter perform this life altering surgery, grateful every day for him and his staff. His goal was "to be healthy", not a number, really liked that prospective. Was off all diabetes meds in less then a week, major goal complete. Went on to reach normal BMI well with in a year. Common channel 125. Keeping carbs pretty close to 50-70, protein over 120, drink plenty. Never have thrown up, nor even felt close to it. My restriction seems minimal, but am satisfied with much smaller meals. Labs have been within normal limits.
