10/8/13 Dr. Kemmeter DS at St Mary's
I had my surgery on Tuesday, and was hoping to be discharged on Wednesday as this was going to be the second stage. I had the VSG on 10/23/12, and lost 101 lbs with just the sleeve. I was told I needed to lose at least 100 lbs before I could have the second stage. I am thankful that my insurance does not have the 1 weightloss surgery per lifetime. So I was able to swing getting my DS.
Dr. K is totally great! I cannot say enough about him. He is super nice, and down to earth. He uses language that I can understand and he checks in with you multiple times during the conversation in order to ensure that you understand what he is saying but not in a way to make you feel dumb.
I had to have an upper GI test done because I kept throwing up the water and ice chips that I had. Like any surgeon, he wanted to make sure that I didn't have a leak or what was going on. So, I was really swollen. I had to get steroids to bring down the swelling and that took a couple hours. I was finally able to keep something down at 2 pm. I have been going good ever since. I am hoping to be release today... I want to lose another 200 lbs.
It's doable, I know it is as long as I eat a high protein and fat diet with low carbs. The carbs are going to be the hardest to give up but that's going to be what I need to do to reach some sort of normalcy.
