EGD
Completely painless - before, during & after. The procedure itself takes like 15 minutes or some ridiculously short time. Getting the IV started is probably the most painful part. You'll be in recovery for up to an hour coming back up from anesthesia. You'll be in a fantastic mood in recovery, it's awesome. They give you a mild anesthesia (forget what it's called) but it doesn't stop your breathing so it's way less traumatic on your body than general anesthesia. For me, I woke up feeling like a million bucks, full of energy like I had just slept for a week, ready to conquer the world. I've heard of some people having a sore throat afterwards but I didn't have that in either of my 2 endoscopies. I even had biopsies with the second one and felt no pain from that.
Good luck! I hope all goes well (but I'm sure it will).
It took me about 2 hours in outpatient surgery to get into the room but once I was in.. I was back in recovery awake in 10 mins. :) I did have a sore throat for 2 days. The day of the EDG I felt fine, then I went to church and made a fool of myself. I couldn't remember peoples names and I was slower with my responses. I would recommend staying home. ;)
