My personal trainer, when I told him of my eating plan, with 6 meals plus four vitamin sit downs a day, with 3 of those meals being protein shakes or similar, said that what we eat as DSers is very similar to what professional bodybuilders would do for their regimen.  Guess this confirms it!  Pump me up - lol!

So in order to lose weight, we DSers HAVE to eat more calories when we're burning a lot of calories?

I was always told that calories aren't that important for us as protein and fat are pretty much free food for us - it's carbs that we need to watch.

The more muscle you have in your body the more calories you burn in a day just doing normal stuff on top of the calories you burn working out. Muscles burn calories longer than cardio does...they continue to burn after you stop lifting. I was an amatuer body builder in my 20s and a weight instructor. I love her abs but would not want the rest. She looks like a man.

I use to bench 400lbs plus with my legs in my 20s. Three years ago I was benching 375 with my legs and only 120 with my arms. I was doing 220 setups a day. You can certainly let yourself go that is for sure. The reason my goal weight is like 160 is because even though I am 5'5" 160 is really skinny for me due to the muscle I have in my arms and legs. When I was working out 7 days a week and building I would eat every two hours. Very similar to the DS diet only with a more carbs.

I'm just impressed by the amount of dedication a bodybuilder's body takes - I'm not after that look for myself though.

BTW watch out for how much muscle you may lose though.  I was surprised to lose my glutes, as I over developed them from doing 1 hour spinning classes stood up for the entire period.  My quads are still over developed though. ;-)
