I love Premier Protein chocolate drink.  I stocked up on protein powders  pre-surgery (smaller sizes, but still, it cost $$) and haven't really touched them.  Premier Protein is at Costco, but my mom bought them at Sam's Club, too.

My surgical team required us to start taking multivitamins and calcium plus D pre-surgery so we can get used to the routine of vitamins.  Consult your surgeon/nutritionist on their typical recs for post surgery and stock up on sale items.  I found chewable multivitamins and calcium pills (that you can buy at CVS) very helpful the first month out.

Good luck!

get your blood work done now, and get a copy of the results.  If any are low in the range, start or increase your supplements now to have as good a starting level as possible before the malabsorption kicks in.  This is especially important for your D level and your iron.

healthy, strong lungs are important for recovery after surgery - breathing exercises are recommended

eat more protein now to be healthier for healing

in regards to post operative protein drinks, your tastes will change considerably.  I had an awful time finding a protein drink I could tolerate.  I just made sure to get my protein through food as quickly as I could...30 grams per day at 30 days out, 60 grams at 60 days, 90 grams daily at 90 days post op.
