Pain after DS and hernia repair

I am almost 24 months out from open DS. I've lost about 140 lbs so far and would like to lose another 50-75. Unfortunately, I've had some setbacks. In June 2012 I had a minor open ventral hernia repair. January 2013 they went in to do what we thought was going to be another minor hernia repair. Instead, they found my abdominal wall to look like Swiss cheese and had to place mesh. I have been in pain since that surgery and no one knows why. I fired my surgeon because he told me I was greedy for wanting to lose more since I've already lost 150. I told him I didn't have this surgery to be obese (which I still am)!

Recently I have developed new abdominal pain and no one seems to know what's wrong. The pain is a ripping sensation. I've had imaging and they think the pain is either gas or referred pain from my back. I don't know about any of you, but I've been rather gassy since surgery and that is totally different pain. Has anyone else been through this??? Any suggestions?

No idea about the pain and I hope it resolves, but if you really want to find out what's going on and perhaps see what might be done to help you lose the rest, you might want to talk to Dr Kesheshian in CA. Please keep us posted on how you're doing.

It sounds like you have adhesions.. (scar tissue)

Was this done at the Mayo Clinic?

No, all surgeries and aftercare have been at the University of Minnesota.

I haven't had a mesh implemented but I have read several post in the past where the patients complained of pain after implementation and determined it was the actual mesh causing the issue.  Some peoples bodies just don't adjust well to foreign objects on the inside.  Not sure if there's any sure way to determine this.

I also have frequent spells of gas.  My gas pain seems to change depending on the food I eat.  I will absolutely not eat broccoli because the gas it causes in me seems more painful then any other gas producing food I have eaten.

I hope you find resolution soon.

I have a feeling my body doesn't like the mesh but since the MRI didn't show any inflammation, the doctor is convinced that's not it. I'm currently tracking food and pain to see if certain foods make the pain worse. Last week about half an hour after a salad, I was in a ton of pain, but they've been fine before. So confused! I see my GI doc this week and am hoping he can help!

Thanks!
