First time posting
Hi folks, I had a DS on 8/28 and my experience has been little short of miraculous.
My surgeon was Dr. Dennis Smith of Wellstar Bariatrics at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA.
I had struggled with weight my entire life, and after a decade of worsening type 2 diabetes, i was using an insulin pump to deliver an average of 150U daily. Add in high blood pressure, and a sedentary lifestyle, and i was weighing in at around 300lbs.
That much insulin made weight loss really tough. In addition, the diabetes caused gastroparesis, so my stomach kept stretching and bloating.
After about a decade of urging from my PCP I finally bit the bullet and went through with it. Dr. Smith suggested the DS as the best opportunity for potentially managing my diabetes.
Within a week I was off insulin, metformin is on permanent hold, and i have quit blood pressure medication. I have gone from couch potato to walking 3-4 miles eac evening

So glad to hear this. I've chosen Dr. Dennis Smith to do my surgery and like you, he has recommended the DS. I'm considered a lightweight (my BMI is less than 40) but I have a LOT of comorbidities. I'm really glad you had a good experience. I was really impressed with him, the one time we met. The only thing I'm worried about is getting the walking in. I have severe arthritis in my feet and knees. I hate to get wet, but if I HAVE to I guess I could walk in a pool.
