Hi My name is Angela

I have decided to go for a DS after a vertical sleeve which I had done May 2012.  I always felt hungry and have only lost about 20 pds.  I know that is good but I want to lose more.

Why is is not as good to have a DS after a vertical sleeve?  why should it matter.   Will I feel less hungry.  To tell you the truth I feel just as hungry as I did before the surgery, but at least now I can't eat as much.

I am Canadian, and I am going to go to Mexico to get the surgery done.   Why do you need so much time off?   When I had my surgery before I had it on Wed and went back to work on Monday?   I am 51 years old also - is that too old to be worried about being chubby?

I am about 5"3 and 215 pds.

Thanks for any help.  I have been reading this board for the last little while and it has really helped.

Only 20 lbs??  How big did they leave your stomach?  Back to work in 2 days - I wonder if they did any more than scratch your abdomen.  That's insane.  I was very listless for a good 6 weeks.

If you're going to MX, I highly recommend Dr. Ungson.  He has many fans out here.  There's another up-and-coming, Dr. Aceves, but I trust Ungson more.

Your never too old to want to feel better about yourself, and be healthy. :) Besides 50 is the new 30.  I had my DS done openly, I was down for a good 6 weeks also.  I hear you can get it done lapri style, but the DS is a complicated and complex surgery, Id rather have a huge scar than risk my life and not have it done right.  Keep comin back to this forum, ask all the questions you need too....well be here. :)

I am 52 and had my DS 10 1/2 years ago.  Even now, I worry about being too chubby!  I know someone who had the DS at 60.  He is now 73 and still living quite a life.  I just emailed him for something and he told me he was getting ready to go on a cruise with his wife.  Never to old, IMO!

Only 20 lbs on a VSG?  Sounds like something did not work.  If you are getting the DS, it sounds like you might need to be resleeved.  Can you still eat a lot, though?  For those of us who had the DS, most of us could only eat a few spoonfuls at a time for a long time post op.

congrats on your 10 yr anniversary!!   i am one of those that could always eat a lot with the DS, even in the hospital, my roomie was also a DS and was sipping water out of a medicine cup, while i was eating yogurt, drinking 8 oz of water at a time.    As a revision patient, with a trashed esophagus, nerve damage, that is why i could not be revised to a VSG only but had to have a ds....but i am not typical....it has been years since my revision, and i can only remember 3x when i have been full, I am not really every hungry, but i am never full either.....very very strange....but i have accepted it....

DS on 12/19/12

I recently turned 52, and had my DS 9 months ago when I was 51.  I so wished I had done this at age 41!

But that said, I am still getting off the couch and back to construction projects, hiking, dog skijoring, and dating again.  So you are never too old to maximize the benefits of this surgery.  The DS has changed my life in so many ways.

Okay, I've GOT to ask---what is "dog skijoring"?

My dogs loved this when we lived in Minnesota.  Dogs in harnesses pulling you on skis.  Google and look up some pics.  Very cool and good exercise for you and the dogs.

Don't think you will have much chance to try this!

LOL! We get about an inch of snow every 2-3 years---and my dogs weigh 40 pounds and 11 pounds. Not a sport I think we'll be taking up soon. (*grin*)
