But I intentionally overcook it!

Why?  I've done it by accident, and the only difference I could see is it firmed it up to the point of being like...  I'm going to say it was as firm as old jello.  It still tasted good, but it didn't seem to have that delicate, silky mouth feel to it any more.

Is there another application for eating this that I'm missing?  Do tell why you over cook it.

Just seems more substantial.  Like you are really eating something.

Maybe I'm odd but I like really hard jello too....

Ok.  I can see your point.  It is more substantial when it's really firm.  Otherwise, it kinda melts in your mouth.

Thanks, I tried this and it was very good.  I tried making meringues with Splenda to use up the egg whites and that didn't work out at all - they just turned back into a white omlette with Splenda - yuck.

If I can figure a way of doing this in the microwave then it might make it onto my regular list.

The 6 left over egg whites - I just mix them into a couple of whole eggs and fry them up for breakfast.  Or the dog gets lucky.

Or I will blend them (to break them down, make a smoother liquid) and put them into my hot chocolate at night.  Yup, raw eggs in my hot cocoa.  The hot liquid cooks them just enough (pasturizes them) to take the raw taste away, and they blend right into the cocoa for  a rich mouth feel.  Oh, and extra protein per cup.

How to make this in the microwave - I've never thought about doing it that way.  So I googled it.  And found recipes for microwave flan.  Who knew?  Good idea!

  1. In a large bowl, mix the milk, remaining sugar, vanilla and eggs until well blended. Pour into the pie plate.
  2. Cook in the microwave at 50% power for 7 minutes, then cook at 100% power for 8 minutes. A knife inserted into the center of the flan should come out clean when it is done. If it is not done after the 8 minutes, cook at one minute intervals, checking each time. Cool and refrigerate before serving.

Thanks - your Googled recipe is probably a safer bet than my experimentation.
