Good afternoon CSerwalt,
I will not be getting a DS. I will be getting a revision of the RNY. My surgeon doesn't perform the DS. Does Dr. Greenbaum accept insurance? What part of NJ is he located?

Kudos to you, 104 pounds!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Thank you for responding.

RNY on 08/12/13

I asked about the ds when I went to see my doctor. There's no one in Australia that does it. Not just a revision but the ds it's self. Just a bit of useless info. Lol.

Good morning Louy,

Thank you for responding to my question. I will be having a revision and not a DS. I was hoping for the DS however, my surgeon does not perform them and I am not able to travel. For some reason, people seem to be doing much better when they go from RNY to DS.

Just a little friendly advise and something for you to thing about.

Why are you stuck with this particular surgeon? A surgeon, is just the doctor you choose to operate on you; you don't owe them anything, they are hired help, nothing more.

If your original RNY didn't work out, what makes you think another revision to RNY is going to work for you?

I lived with my RNY for almost 30 years; it never worked, like the DS does, it helped a little at first, then it made keeping weight off harder than ever; I would never recommend RNY to anyone. I know there some who are successful, but IMO it's in spite of their RNY and not because of the RNY.

It is your life and your choice, but if I were you I would find a way to get a real revision to DS; even if I had to pay for it myself (which is what I did).

For me, the RNY = 30 years of misery; the DS was 2 months of misery recovering and so far 5 years of rock & roll, the best life I could have ever imagined; actually much better than I had ever dreamed possible.

I wish you the best no matter what you decide to do; I really hope you're successful, everyone deserves a quality life.

Good evening Kerry,
I am considering seeing a Dr. in NJ to inquire about the possibility of having a DS. I would have loved to stay with my original surgeon because I believe I would have reached my goal if I hadn't gotten pregnant. The more I read about the procedure, the more I feel it's for me. It is my intention to schedule an appointment with the surgeon in NJ as soon as possible.

I feel like I owe it to myself to do something that will benefit my children and myself.

Thank you so much for your information and advice. Hopefully I can get an appointment soon. Thank you for your encouragement and honesty. I appreciate it more than you will ever know.

My sister in law is having a revision from RNY to DS next Friday with Dr. Arnold in Arizona. He told her that her dumping will increase. I was confused by that.... Can anyone shed light on that?

Banded on 7/1/09,cool removed on 11/11... Switched on 2/5/13. Ticker includes 23lbs lost on preop diet...

She probably is NOT getting a true DS.  With a true DS, the surgeon should be reconnecting the pouch to the remnant stomach and then the surgeon would form the vertical sleeve.  With the sleeve, you get the pyloric valve back and you would not have any more of a chance of having dumping than the general pop.  I've never heard of Dr. Arnold.  He is not on the recommended surgeon list.  I would highly suggest that your SIL get in writing EXACTLY what the surgeon is going to be doing.  She does not want to settle for the ERNY.  That is often described as the worst of both worlds.  She has to educate herself and make sure that the surgeon is doing what she wants.

There's no dumping with the DS; your sister in law is not getting the DS. The surgeon is fibbing so he can collect the fee.
