Anyone have a link to a topic where the post op diet is discussed or broken down? Such as which foods are safe to eat when? My surgeons office gave me one, but im curious to see what this community has to say.

Do you mean protein first, and then if you have room, veggies and a little fruit? Or, are you asking about progressing after surgery?

Mine was full liquids for 2 days after I got home, whi*****luded cream of whatever soup strained and protein shakes. Next 3 or 4 days add full liquids without straining. Next week soft foods such as cheese slowly and see how it goes. The next week start adding a few more soft foods and if you can some normal foods....protein first. Low carb. Protein shakes to keep protein around 100 grams a day.

Progressing after surgery. This is a bit of what I'm looking for. My surgeons office just seems a bit stricter than some of the things I've heard on here. My sis had the DS a few years ago, and she said it's better to trust what's on here rather than the surgeon's office.

Greenbaum is pretty top notch, would you post his progression? It may be just fine but I would comment about what I might change.

The first 5 -6 weeks after surgery it is best to listen to your surgeon and your body. You may find you can progress through the stages quicker than he thinks - or not. This part is pretty subjective but better to follow the surgeons recommendations early on so if you have a problem he understands where you are at eating wise.

My surgeon had me on the following schedule once I got out of the hospital.

   Full liquid 1- 2 weeks (I did 2 weeks)
   Puree - 1 - 2 weeks  (I did one week)
Soft Diet - 1 -2 weeks (I did two weeks)

Then slowly adding different things as I tolerated them to a regular diet.

Hydrate first, protein next, start vitamins when tolerable.

Eggs, cottage cheese, sliced cheese, Wendy's Chilli :), fish, canned tuna in water, yogurt, some creamed soup as long as I could chew any add-ins really well (I avoided rice), moist meats (dark meat - chicken thighs and legs).

Anything you can squish with a fork is considered a soft diet. =)

My surgeon defined it as anything you can mash with a fork. You don't have to ma**** but it needs to be mash-able.

I was full liquids first week

8th day started out on soft foods. By one month was able to start on heavier stuff although by week three I was already eating some heavier stuff.
