doing the right thing?
so i have shared my desire to have the DS done with close friends and family. I have gotten the go for it! the why would you want to do that to yourself? the you should try Herbal life it works! just all kinds of responses. i just kinda felt bad like if i may be doing the wrong thing?
These are normal replies from family. Many people are scared of surgery. They just do not understand and the fear takes over the rationalization of the benefits. Give them some pros and cons and maybe some links to good informational websites and ask them to study up on it if they are really interested. You have to decide what is good for you not for them.
"You should try Herbal Life it works!" This made me giggle. I had a lady at work ask me, "Well, have you tried just eating better and exercising?" I almost came back with a sarcastic response such as, " OMGOODNESS why did I not think of that!?" LOL.
Do some studying and research and if you want your family involved encourage them to do the same. If you know they will continue to be un-supportive then just stop talking to them about it and be firm with them about your decision. JMHO!
Good luck!
thanks for the research advice! it has helped to ease some of my family members concerns and mine as well! My family has seen me struggle with my weight and health issues my whole life. I think their biggest fear is the surgery!
Yeah, I didn't share anything until I'd made my decision and then it was only my hubby, my sons and my parents. Luckily they know when I make up my mind that's it. They also knew how miserable I was. I had about a minute of "let's try Atkins one more time". Nope, you tried that and it doesn't work any more, You've yo-yo'd yourself into a corner.
Anyway, you have to make this decision for yourself and let the chips fall where they may. I don't regret my decision for a minute. I hope you will be happy with whatever decision you make.

Hi,
I told my husband but didnt tell my mother or kids until a week before surgery. I didnt want to hear all the negativity about it and there is plenty out there. I really haven't told many since I've had it done that was just easier for me.
Best of luck,
Trish

I told precious few because of that very reason. Everybody has a story, many well-meaning. This is not a decision made lightly or rashly. If we could do it any other way, we would. Non-MO people just don't get it. The point is to surround yourself with loving, supportive people. There is no place for naysayers. It's a matter of self-preservation and stress reduction.
Good luck with everything!
