Does the amount of time your on a liquid diet prior to surgery vary by surgeon?

I had asked Dr. Rabkin how long your on it prior and he said just a couple of days. I am seeing a couple weeks, or more online.

Does it just vary by surgeon ?

Yes, My surgeon does not even require a liquid diet pre-op. We purchase high protein product from them and stick to an 800-900 calorie high protein diet eating on their product and drinking water or other beverages with 15 calories or less. I lost 19 pounds during that two week period.

Everybody seems different. My Doc was two weeks.

It does vary.. I am doing a 2 week liquid diet.  Protein shakes, sugar free popsicles and water.  It's supposed to help rid some of the fat on the liver to make it more flexible.
