Ds surgery approved
I have been approved for a ds by kaiser and am just waiting on the appointment with the physiologist to schedule the surgery. I have done a lot of perusing all the boards and finally joined. I am wondering if any of you have had issues with malnutrition while sticking to the vitamin and protein regimen?
The longterm studies of the DS on large groups of patients show that the rate of nutritional deficiencies is low, though slightly higher than for gastric bypass. But for both operations, the cause is usually noncompliance. In other words, if you eat lots of protein and take all your supplements faithfully, and get your lab work to check for deficiencies, most likely you will be fine.
And you are fortunate in that Dr. Rabkin is one of the few who provides good info on post-op requirements for the DS. Most don't.
