Dumping Syndrome
I had my RnY 9 days ago and I had been feeling fantastic and figured I was going to sail through this. But I just had my first and I hope LAST episode of dumping. That was the worst thing I have ever experienced in my life!! At first I felt a little nauseated and then I started having intestinal cramping and went to the bathroom. After several minutes and the cramping continuing to get worse, I started having diarrhea and the nausea kept getting worse. Then I started sweating and started stripping off all my clothes and sweating, I mean sweating like it was running off my body. The nausea and stomach cramps and the diarrhea continued off and on for about a half an hour and continued to increase in intensity. I noticed things started to turn black and I realized I was going to pass out so I sat up on the toilet instead of leaning over. Then I heard my roommate knock on the door to ask if I was ok. I had passed out and hit my head on the wall and they had heard it. That brought me back around and I noticed this nightmare had been going on about 40 minutes. My intestines started cramping again and I had diarrhea for another 10 minutes and then sat there for about another 10 until I had enough strength to walk back to my room. At that point, I crawled into bed and had a two hour very restless sleep where I could not get warm enough. About an hour after that I had to get up and had another bout of diarrhea but it finally seems like it has subsided. The only thing I did different this morning from every other morning since my surgery is instead of taking my vitamins with sips of Isopure, I was trying to get in a little more protein and sipped a Premier shake which I think was just too much and I might have chewed my vitamins a little faster than usual. I had read about dumping but nothing I have read ever sounded as severe as what I experienced this morning. It was truly awful and the first time I have questioned my decision to have this surgery. I had been doing so well and feeling really great. Any comments, ideas, suggestions, experiences such as this, are greatly welcomed and appreciated.
Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time! You might want to post this on the RNY board as I believe most people on this board wouldn't be too familiar with dumping.
In the meantime, maybe you should contact your surgeon for advice.
Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks Amy. I'm not very savvy with boards like this and not sure how I ended up posting on this one but will attempt to find the other one and post there. I'm not even sure what the DS is but maybe I should have researched more if y'all don't have to deal with dumping. I called my Dr but with it being Saturday got an on call surgeon who told me to just keep drinking liquids and call my doctor on Monday whom I have my post op with anyway. Feeling weak but lots better now. Thanks again for you post back.
