Celebrating One Month Surgiversary
Greetings Fellow DSers!
Today marks exactly one month since my DS. I was fortunate enough to have an uneventful recovery, and I returned to work 2 weeks after surgery. Here's a summary of the high points since then:
- I am down 36 pounds since surgery!!!
- The back pain I experienced when walking is now almost completely resolved.
- I am learning valuable lessons each day about how to feed my new designer alimentary anatomy.
- Issues with immediate post-operative nausea and reflux are improving daily.
Of course, I do face some challenges:
- Being able to eat enough at one sitting to prevent nausea upon taking vitamins. I ordered the DS program from Vitalady.com, and where I never had issues with pills or capsules before, I cannot drink enough to get them down.
- Knowing what to tell people and when. My boss's boss was in the office yesterday and hadn't seen me since surgery. While this is certainly not a secret, I am keeping it on a need-to-know basis. He remarked that I look "healthy, refreshed and ready to take over the world." I suspect that these kinds of comments will become more frequent, accompanied by inquiries about what I did. I guess I will jump off those bridges when I get to them.
- Bidding farewell to food the way I knew it before surgery. My brain often tries to tell my body that it needs to eat something, but my body is quick to let the brain know that there is no way in Hades that we are going to eat an eggroll.
Thanks to everyone on the board for being a source of inspiration and information. Reading all of your posts certainly helped me understand what I signing on for.
Finally, a big shout out to EN. Although I have never met her in person or even exchanged words with her directly in this forum, I dreamed that she punched me in the mouth for eating potato chips.

When the compliments and questions come, just be gracious about it all. Here's a quote to memorize:
"What a nice thing to say! I have been making some positive changes in my life and feeling great. I''m glad to know it's visible to everyone else, too"

Very funny. Appreciate the humor. It reminded me of a comment by a comedian regarding Oprah and her lamenting about her weight. He said, "What? Doesn't she have enough money to pay someone to slap the food out of her hand before she puts it in her mouth?" I thought that was very funny and would be a great alternative to wls.
