This forum really helped me through my research phase...so i figured I would do a follow up.

I can officially say I was switched on 8/20/13 with Dr Rosilin in NYC.

 HW278 SW272 ....current weight 253. 19 pounds down in 14 days!

The Good:

Down 19lbs in 14 days!

First Dr. Appointment today ...everything great!

Pain almost entirely gone...just a tad soar now when i bend!

About to move to pured foods (from liquid diet)

feeling like myself again!

getting in about 36oz of water a day + liquid foods.

So far so good!

The Bad:

I usually handle pain very well... but when i was in the hospital and the first few days home... I was surprised by how painful my abdomen was...i would cry when i moved sometimes...and as i said i usually handle pain very well. (but all gone now)

The staff at Lenox hill in the hospital...left something to be desired....they would tell u to walk and never really help you or motivate you... very lack luster but sufficient I suppose.

Liquid diet is annoying but....but new stomach can't handle anything else...so slow wins the race.

Have to start viatmins next week.

All in all....2 weeks out and I think I definitely made the right decision.

Also can anyone tell me when cheese is ok in the diet stage? pured?

My doc was very liberal with food, releasing me with instructions to start eating what I felt like eating, erring on the softer side at first to see how my body reacted.  Cheese was easy to eat pretty early.  I'm so glad you're adjusting quickly.  Definitely be pushing more fluids, though.  36oz of fluids isn't enough of what  your body needs, but if you're getting close to that with liquid foods, then  you're okay.

I may be mistaken, but that is a rule for RNY. I don't have any problems drinking before, during, or after my meals. (I don't gulp it down, of course, but I take sips throughout.)

For two weeks post op not drinking for 30 minutes after meals might just be a precaution against
overfilling your stomach and then vomiting. As you get later on it won't matter so much depending on
what is happening with your stomach. I'm almost 5 months out and still don't have room for both
my protein and liquids at the same meal.

Glad the pain is going away. Looking back on it do you think you needed more pain meds the first
couple of days? Just curious.

They were actually giving me a lot of dylodin or however it spell it... so I don't think so.... I would get it every 4 hours ...maybe i needed another kind.
