anything different when having a colonoscopy and endoscopy?

I am posting this hoping that some of the members who have been around for awhile can give me some advice.  I take my vitamins faithfully, get my blood tests yearly to make sure getting enough vitamins/minerals and am normally in great health.  (LOVE MY DS!)

My doctor has scheduled a colonoscopy and endoscopy for me because over the last 4 months my iron and hemoglobin levels have plummeted despite a sharp uptick in my iron intake when we discovered the anemia.  Are there any procedural differences for a DS patient?  I live overseas where the DS is never performed so my doc here has a few questions.  I have called and sent an email to my DS surgeon but am not sure how long it will take him to respond.

All my other vitamins and minerals are in the normal range.  I have been taking the iron with extra C and separately from my normal vitamin regime.  I am being treated for H pylori infection.  Anyone else have any experience with these symptoms have any thoughts?

Am a little scared and praying for restored health!  The last 5 years (since my DS) have been awesome and I'd like to keep it that way:)

We are sorry to hear you are facing these test but if it helps you find out what is going on that is a good thing.  Try contacting other DS surgeon's offices and the DS'ers here will be glad to help with sharing their knowledge and experience.

Good luck to you

One big difference is that the colon prep can be a different type that a gallon of GoLytely, e.g., Suprep (which is still awful, but a smaller volume and 1/2 the day before and the other 1/2 the morning of). And you may need to start sooner than a normie might.

For a DSer it is not uncommon to be anemic/low iron. There are many that can not take enough iron by mouth to bring up the hemoglobin and iron levels. Most need iron infusions, and that is what you should tell your doctor.

Good luck
