Hoping for DS
Hello everyone. I'm hoping so bad that I will qualify for WLS. I have a lot of weight to lose and I'm really hoping my surgeon offers the DS option as I fear I won't be able to lose enough weight with just a RNY. I have my first appointment on Sept 11th. I've been drawing so much information and support from reading others posts on here and just wanted to throw my hat into the ring so to speak.
Good luck! It's best to go to a surgeon who you know performs the DS. If you consult one that doesn't perform this type of surgery, chances are he won't even mention that option.
I would suggest researching to find the top DS surgeons in your area and scheduling consultations with them.

You can go to dsfacts.com and see if your surgeon is on that list and also gives you more information to soak up. I know before my surgery I wanted to read everything I could get my hands on.
Best of luck,

I checked your surgeon's page on OH. He lists only gastric bypass and mini gastric bypass (which is not even a standard of care bariatric operation). Also, after over 7 years on this forum and others related to the DS, I have never heard of him. He is definitely not a DS surgeon.
The key is to choose your operation first, THEN choose the right surgeon for you, NOT to proceed with an operation that you do not believe is right for you just because the most convenient surgeon, or the one you found first, doesn't offer what you really want/need.
While the Ds works well for almost anyone who meets the standard criteria for wls, it is esp useful for people who need to lost the most weight. It has the best statistics of any bariatric operation for percentage excess weight loss, for maintenance of that weight loss, and for resolution of almost all comorbidities. I can't emphasize enough how important maintenance is, as weight regain is a major problem with gastric bypass and other operations.
Check the list of DS surgeons on dsfacts.com. If you're not sure, ask questions. If you have done your research and know that the DS is right for you, there is no value in having a consultation with a surgeon who doesn't do it.

Don't hope for it...take control and accept nothing less than what you want. It's your life and your decision.
You are wasting time, effort, and money going to a doc who doesn't do the DS. Go to a doc who does the DS. Otherwise you will end up with the RNY. Docs are in this game to make money. They will sell you on whatever procedure they do. Just like the Nissan dealer isn't going to tell you about the great new Toyota's. Always follow the money!
It is your body and the rest of your life you are talking about. DO NOT LET SOMEONE ELSE DECIDE WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU.
Consult one of the "real" DS surgeons (most are listed at DSFacts.com) and get the surgery that has the best scientific studies behind it for everything they measure in Weight Loss Surgery except reflux. If you want what we have then you GO GET IT!!!
We will be here for you all the way.
