Calcium Question

Citrate causes such constipation problems.  I was wondering about a combo of these three to get the same effect as Citrate.  Has anyone used specifically Bone Health from New Chapter.  It is a plant based Calcium, which the Vitamin Shoppe guy said is more absorbable, and that shop recommends it for WLS patients.  Here it is:

Than to take it with the Bone Up & a couple of packets of Upcal daily.

Ideas?

The whole purpose is not to get constipated.  Citrate does that to me no matter how much Magnesium I take.

I think you'll find that it isn't the citrate in the calcium so much as it is pretty much most calcium will do that. But need to take whatever you can absorb, because it is so important for us to take.

You'd almost be better of stick with the calcium citrate and add miralax to your daily routine.

ca is constipating if you dont add the correct amount of mg, try doing a 2:1 ca citrate to mg glycinate (mg glycinate is very gentle on the gi system)....that should alleviate your constipation issue.... good luck

A little off topic, but one way that I use my body signals re: calcium intake - If I've got loose stools, I haven't taken enough and/or forgot to take my calcium.

Calcium actually helps me.

Does the Vitamin Shoppe guy know anything about DS malabsorption?  If not, I'd take what he says with a grain of salt.  When a vitamin is recommended for WLS patients, they're usually talking about RNY/gastric bypass patients, since that is the more prevalent surgery in the US.

My own general rule of thumb for vites, is to double the dose recommended, if it says "for WLS patients".  Our DS needs are very different from bypass patients, and altogether different when it comes to ADEK's!

I'm in Dr Stewart and Dr Barker part of the country... The Manager from the Vitamin Shoppe claims to have a lot of DS customers from these 2 Dr's.  I didn't say those names to him.  He had to know about them somehow.  They seem to be good at this one, it's not about the selling.  It's more about the "helping" .  I was thinking of adding the Upcal D.  It may not be necessary.

I have stopped all calcium due to my colon issues.  I need to find something.  I don't want to waste money.

You didn't say what kind of Magnesium.  What you need to add for Calcium induced constipation is Magnesium OXIDE not Citrate.  Vitalady has an exdcellent program for fighting constipaiton also.  Not taking Calcium is not an option.  I took UpCal D because I liked it (it was like candy) and still had to take Mag Oxide for constipation.

How much fat are you getting?  I pour a half a stick of butter over popcorn every night.  Plus add fat everywhere else I can think of.  That helps a lot too.
