Hello all, I had a question for all the DS Vets, i just wanted to know some of you're Pros & Cons that  you experienced w/ the surgery, i know that every ones body is different but i just wanted to get some real life feedback if you will VS what i read when doing my research, some of what i find just sounds like they are trying to scare ppl out of getting WLS at all! I currently have the Realize Band or as some have said the "crap band" and im looking into getting a revision to the DS so any insight you can give would be helpful

I don't believe anyone is trying to scare you.  It's a complicated surgery.  Some people go through it and have no problems.  Others have nothing but problems.  It is the biggest commitment you will make in your life.  You must know that for the rest of your life, you will be taking Vitamins/supplements as long as you live.  No matter what, you must get in your protein.  It is a very personal decision.  No one can make it but you.

Even if you don't do anything else, get the band out!  Let your body heal from it.  I hate those that it is even still used!!!

Revisions are complicated, and the band - advertised as being so uninvasive, can do all kinds of damage around your stomach while it's in there.  Hopefully in only 3 years it hasn't on you.  Read up and find a well-seasoned DS surgeon who has done plenty of revisions.  I don't know them offhand, but I'll bet someone has a list of recommendations, and don't be surprised if you have to travel to find the best surgeon to do this.  Plan on a 2 week stay to get past the period where complications are likely to develop.

I will not lie the first few months are rough. I am one that did not have any complications. It took a couple of months to get use to everything and get my bowels on track but now everything is just normal to me. I lose weight without hardly trying as long as I just eat properly which is pretty easy really.

Thanks for the feedback! I just wanted hear well read lol about peoples experience along with the other research i've been doing, coming to a decision about which surgery is right for me is a lot harder this time around because i dont want to end up where i am now but i am taking the steps to get it removed because i dont want it to cause any harmful/serious damage like i've read about.
