Bathroom issues?
I'm only 6.5 weeks out and so far I've been able to tell if it's just gas or if it's poo time. My lower stomach (just above the FUPA - ha!) will start to rumble when it's poo time. My mid-stomach (just above belly button) will rumble when it's just gas. I have no idea why it's different but I really appreciate it! If the rumble works it's way south, I know a bathroom visit is coming. We just have to pay close attention to our bodies.
I do have to wake up about 15-30 minutes early to account for a morning poo. The more I move around first thing in the morning, the sooner it will happen. Moving around makes it get going, hence the term "bowel movement". Also, if I toss and turn all night I might have to get up before the alarm because I've jarred it loose too soon. But (no jinx!) I have not sharted or pooped myself yet.
I returned to work full-time after 3 weeks, whi*****ludes some car travel of 2-3 hours straight (in rural areas) here and there. No issues there either. But just because I'm Type A, I do keep a spare pair of basic black slacks in my car. God willing, I'll shrink out of them before I need them.
Just think about it this way. When you were born, your body went through changes with each stage of food (milk, pureed, soft and then normal). Your bowels adjusted at each stage as your body learned what it liked, didn't like and how different foods affected it.
After the DS, it's the same thing, but without the diapers. Your body is adjusting to a new configuration and "learning" how to process. There will be bubbles and grumbles, softness, hardness, stinky days and not so stinky days based upon what you're eating. Again, you'll learn what you can tolerate and what you need to stay away from. You'll learn what makes you gaseous, constipated, loose, etc. It will take time, but there's a process to it. Don't be afraid of the change. I'm just over 8 years out and have never had an accident. I deal with the result when I really want to indulge, cuz it's just me and the cat. He never says anything, just camps out in another room for the day.:) Hope this helps.
Bathroom issues are on a bell curve, one side has more BMs - more loose stools, the other side has constipation issues. The upper part of the bell has the 1-3x in the morning and maybe one in the evening.
My bowels were screwed up before my DS, the meds didn't help, but it's continued. I do react more to food and sometimes new vitamins etc. I also can't take probiotics which help almost everyone. I do wish that iron and calcium would bind me up some, but it doesn't. Chia seeds to a nice job though.
I've never worn a diaper, but have had a few accidents, but did before the surgery too. The DS is worth having to make a few extra runs to the bathroom and not having to deal with diabetes with insulin and metformin, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Kidding mostly. Trying to lighten a serious question. But I'm glad to see that the issues are kind of blown out of proportion by non DS'ers. Any knowledge is greatly appreciated though. I'm trying to understand what I would be getting myself into. Eyes wide open.
