long timer DS'er

I had my DS 10/01/02, so almost 11 years ago. No problems other than a 10-20 pound weight gain this past year, mainly because I started a new job that was all encompassing, and I had no time for exercise. Stats are 367 starting weight, ~160 lowest weight, current weight 180 and losing slowly. ( I teach, and have been able to finally go back to my horse now that it is summer time!)

Labs have been mainly good, dexa scan slowly trending in the not so nice range, having yearly labs done weds.

I also would do this yearly if necessary, I am convinced that I would have been long gone without this surgery!

Wow!

When you had your DS, folks around my area were still calling it "experimental"!

Glad to hear from you!  I'm sure you've got a lot of knowledge to share with those of us who are recent DSers!

Wow..It's wonderful to hear such great news from the long timers :)  I would love to feel free from this weight prison I have been in for over 40 years. I'm contemplating the Duodenal switch and am petrified of going in for surgery so the more feedback the better.

Hi,

I'm a newbie contemplating DS surgery or the sleeve surgery.  I was wondering what helped you take the leap to have surgery and if you have had any major complications since the surgery. As someone that is new to this I'm pretty scared and unsure of what my future would look like after the surgery and if vitamin deficiency is inevitable down the road-regardless of supplementation. I would love to hear your input on the surgery and the pros and cons. Trying to muster the courage to take the leap. Some folks are telling me to get the sleeve and then get the DS later and others are telling me to just go for the DS. I tend to be a binge eater and do not graze. I have lost 100 lbs multiple times, only to regain the weight plus some. I'm wondering if DS could free me from this prison.

Has not weighed myself since 1/2010.  Letting my clothes gauge my progress instead.

Hi,

I had my DS on 3/6/2003 with Dr. Elariny and still lurk out here and post occasionally.  I really wish there were more long term people around, particularly to share experiences.

Glad to see you out here!
