long timer DS'er
I started at 308 (I am only 5'2") went down to 125 in about 20 months with a few plateaus . About two years later, I noticed I started to gain again so I went in for a revision. Lost the 50 lbs. quickly. and have been at around 135 for about a decade.
I was Dr.Gagner's 7th, BPD/DS patient (lap)
Thoughts: (my opinion only)
1.I would do it again in a heartbeat. My blood pressure was through the roof
2. worse part: the sticky bowel movements... they do not really get better with time. only what you eat affects the smell way past losing stage
3. While going through the research, approval, surgery, post-op, recovery and losing stage.... that is all you think about and life revolves around "IT". Almost 14 years as a post op....everything revolves around everything but food (I am finally free)
DS in 2005 so 8 years out. My bowels are "normal", other than I am constipated if I don't eat a lot of fat and the smell is no worse than any of my 'normie' family's. Since I started making my own kefir I actually have some gas that is almost odorless. :) However, IF I eat a lot of simple carbs all bets are off.
I eat something about every 2 hours all day long.
I lost 110% of my excess weight and am holding at 100% EWL.
I would have this surgery once a year if necessary.
Hi there! I'm from the class of 2007. My angel that helped guide me through the rough days was 2003. I think 10 years post-op is about the longest long timers I've seen around here. Some of them may be on Facebook and Proboards now. And, there is still and active Yahoo group of "grads" that are various surgeries from as long ago as 20-something years. I love to hear from the long timers. I'm glad you posted. : )
