Potassium chloride supplement question

I was prescribed KCL, and foolishly was taking the extended release pills for two months, while my levels kept dropping.  (low levels are related to diuretic use)...  We've cut the diuretic, and started on liquid KCL, NOT extended release pills     I'm an old timer, and I don't know why that slipped on by me...usually I'm so careful with supplements.   Anyway, does anyone know if Potassium needs to be taken away from anything else?  I've read a lot about it, but didn't find anything about other vitamins/minerals.    We'll redraw the levels in 2 more weeks, but once it's stable, I'd like to get back on to a dry form of Potassium.  the liquid is a pain in the neck!   Thanks for any info,  Mary

I've never heard of any separation requirements. I just wouldn't take calcium around it for awhile until your levels are up at least.

Hi Mary, I take mine with my two big batches that don't contain calcium.

I take Potassium Citrate which is not extended release and helps to prevent kidney stones.  It's a 1080 mg pill.  I started with taking half a pill twice a day, but now I only need 1/3 of a pill twice a day.  It's a cheap prescription.  -Jenny

Thanks....   I'll move it away from the Calcium a bit....   and ask about Potassium Citrate pills...   trying to carry the liquid around is a pain!    Mary

Once you get your labs up you might try Salt Substitute to keep it up.  If mine drops just a little I get horrible leg cramps.  Using salt substitute (100% potassium) sure helps.  I take otc potassium but I think it is worthless because the dose is so low.

Good luck!!

Becky
