Vitamin A deficiency

Sue his NP is great, nice as can be.  I can run circles around her regarding nutrition for this surgery.  She even said to me on the phone one day, I"m amazed at you. She worries about as she calls it "self medicating based on info from here".  Then on the same hand, compliments me for my labs.  I learned from the amazing people here what I need to know.

His Nut Jessica, in 6 mo of dietary visits, didn't tell me one thing that would help me.  NOT ONE!!!  Other than I would Die if I didn't take my protein or Vit A.  I don't know her from outside his office, I would more than imagine, when Jessica leaves the office, she does not worry one bit about any patient at all.  She cares about her paycheck and bonuses.

I don't mean to burst your bubble here.  Dr Stewart is a cutter.  Remember that.

Sue and I had a discussion about taking fat soluble vitamins for a DSr, whether or not it was a good idea.  I did what she said at first taking them with "lots of fat" my Vits.  Well, it didn't work out great for me.  I literally pooped them out.  Now, I take them as MajorMom (who in my opinion needs to change her name to MajorDSNutritionist), spreading them out.  Poof, it works for me.  I admit, the way I take vits is a pain on a busy day.  It's working.

The one thing I would say to you is this...

Always take your PPI away from your Vits.  It will interfere with absorption.

Always take your Probiotics away from your Vits.  To make sure you get all that you can from them.

Good luck!

When I say Dr. Stewart it is his NP Sue I am speaking of. She has a book and several classes on diet and vits. She is the one who said we needed that much fat in order to be able to absorb. I then looked up vitamin absorption online and everywhere I read it states that fat is needed in order to absorb a good portion of our vits.

I do not take my vitamins with food or anything. I spread them out. I do eat a lot of fat and protein though. Not as much fat as I should now but I am only 3 weeks out.

I am not 100% sure why everyone thinks she wants you to take your vits with fat food at the same time. I was never told that. I was simply told to get a certain amount of fat in my diet...just like protein in order for my body to be able to absorb them. Fat is required for their absorption so it makes sense. I think yall are not quite understanding what I am saying. Your body NEEDS fat in your diet in order for those vits to absorb into your system. So all she is saying is that we need to eat fat. She gave a certain amount of g she believes we need since we only absorb 20 %. It is not something new. DSers are suppose to eat high protein and high fat.

Nobody said to take your vits with fat so you would **** them out. This is about fat in your system already....

Is there any chance you can order it from another country under a different brand name?

I don't have a Vitamin A deficiency, but I do take  Dry A 25,000 IU.

I pick it up very inexpensively from my local health food store.  I also order dry fat solubles by mail when I can catch a good sale.  PM me and I'll tell you where I get them from.

It's a perfectly legitimate company, and they have dang near everything we need, except the ultra-high potency Dry D.

Which brand of Vitamin A do you get at the health food store,  if you don't mind my asking?

Solaray Dry A 25,000IU.  It is also available online.  I use Lucky Vitamin as my primary source for dry fat solubles, Amazon exclusively for Dry D.  I find the prices a litttle better, not a whole lot, but for me, every penny counts!

Don't forget, many mail-order companies offer free shippng as  a promotion.

oh my gosh...I am sorry for your issues,  can help, it seems you are beyond oral,  You can get Vit A RX, compounded at a compounding pharmacy.  I am not sure where you live?  I have a compounding pharmacy nearby me, actually2.   I have a RX compounded for me, yes they can compound Vit A, since they do that for CF patients.   I am not sure but I believe they will mail it out to you also?  You need your dr to call the compounding pharmacy, they are actually pretty good and can help a MD with ordering correctly.  the PharmD at my facility is great.  send me a message if you need more info.....do something now.....before you have irreversible issues.....I wish you the best...

What does your physician suggest?

Have you tried to get it from out of the country pharmacies? (Canada, Mexico, Europe, etc.)

Do you have any D-issues? There's a veterinarian formula which is A-D.  You should ask your physician about possibly using that (if you have d issues as well)... especially if your sight is already going.  http://www.stuartproducts.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=16:only-one-edit-window-how-do-i-create-read-more&catid=28:current-users

Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin.  I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby.  5 years out from revision to VSG.  Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(

My doctor suggests the shots.  Says that is the only way to bring the levels up from where they are (last test Vitamin a was at 2),  Yes I do know about the veterinary formula.  We purchased it and had it tested for safety issues.  It had rat feces, glass particles and metal shavings in it.  It was determined that it was not safe.  There is only one maker of this drug in the entire world and they are here in the USA.  We have searched the world over.  Even the drug maker told me that I was wasting my time as they were the only ones to make it and had already searched for any remaining vials.  I really appreciate everyone's advice and thoughts.
