Has anyone switched from dry to oil based Vitamin D?

If they're not dry, you're throwing your money away.

Hi,  I.m not sure where I saw this - maybe the archives? Some people have had better absorption if they take some of the dry D right before bed or even in the middle of the night so it is the only thing in your stomach. I think the implication was that there might have been some interaction going on that was not present at night.

Just a thought. I never saw anything more than a few posts where this helped.

Hi PeteA,

This is something I could try too. I do take a lot of vitamins so might be worth a shot. I see your surgeon was Dr. Phillip Shauer. He was the surgeon I first wanted when he was still in Pittsburgh. This was probably 10 years ago at least, and before I knew about the DS.

Hi Brenda,

I though I was pretty lucky to get Schauer. Base on my BMI he steered me right to the switch. He doesn't seem to do too many but I'm pretty happy with the outcome. Good Luck with your vit issues.

Pete

I'm going to try that too, but I've got all kinds of stuff going on.

Bottom line, I'm already osteopenic, My calcium levels are normal but my last PTH was 142, which means if something doesn't turn around pretty soon, my bones are gong to look like lace curtains.  I have also had some spinal symptoms, a slightly painful "slipping" feeling right between my shoulder blades.   I hope it's not a fracture, but that's what I'm thinking, because the area is sore for a couple days after.

Wow!  You win the award for highest dose I've ever seen.

I kinda theorize that once someone is taking 200,000 IU or more, maybe something else is going on besides JUST malabsorption.  Totally just a theory, but maybe there's an issue with it being utilized too quickly, or an issue with another vitamin/mineral that makes it difficult to absorb or use the vitamin D, like a co-dependent relationship not working out well...or something like that.

I like the idea of possibly looking for other possible sources of improvement in bone health before adding more, more, more vitamin D.

Cool--congratulations.  Good luck.

I forget the bougie size used, but I want to say 34fr?  Maybe?  My common channel is 100cm and I lost most of my weight in 18 months.

Hi Kayla,

Yes, I see what you are saying. I think I am taking everything I am suppose to for my bones, so maybe there is something else going on. I did just start the natural progesterone replacement, so maybe it will help too. Osteopenia/Osteoporosis  runs in my family, so I think genetically I am fighting a big uphill battle. Maybe I should go to an endocrinologist?

I see you got 37 responses to this question.  I am going to have to look (when I have time) to see if all 37 people told you the same thing.
