It's endo time!!!!
I agree about having specialty treatment centers for DSers.
I don't think this has anything to do with racial issues, although sunshine doesn't do much for folks with more melanin, and I would hope that being doctors they are aware of that, especially mine, as she is African! I love her, she is very bright, but we seem to be locking horns on this issue.
I am one of three DSers in my town, and all from the same hospital. They're the only COE in the state, and they have set up a network of support groups throughout our state. A local hospital has a WLS center, but not a COE, and doesn't do DS. Mostly RNY and CrapBand.
We met each other at support group, and we do share info, but mostly they ask me where to look for the info they need. I have always pointed them here, and given them the links to literature I know about.
I agree we need an education system that includes the DS. Problem is, the RNY and CrapBand are light years ahead, in terms of marketing.
Our surgeries are tailor-made, but all surgeries, even for so much as a hangnail, are different depending on the individual. Basic information is not getting to the medicos, as it does with other procedures. I don't know how to fix that. I wish I did.
We DSers are the red-headed stepchildren of the bariatric community!
