Bruising
I am having a big problem with bruising on my arms and legs. I recently had my first set of complete labs and everything is good nutritionally. I'm taking 3 multi-formula Bariatric Advantage chewables high in A,D,E,& K and 1500 to 2500 chewable Cs, both spread out over the day. I'd appreciate any ideas about what I might do to stop bruising.
Thanks,
Roberta
I don't hold a lot of value in the BA ADEK multi's. Most of us need way more than they offer. Did you get to analyze your numbers against the baseline test taken before your surgery? You can see from that where you may be dropping. Never trust the office nurse to tell you "you're fine". They do an eyeball check to see if you're "in range", but never check past tests to see if your levels are changing at all.

Vitalady does a 90 day starter pack for DSers. You can get it here http://www.vitalady.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?multiadd=action &msku0=1930X90DS&mqty0=1&msku1=1999XDS&mqty1=1
It doesn't include K2 so I'd add that into the order separately. You don't want to kick yourself come dexa scan time.

You can take a simple multi, like Centrum, and add to that the Calcium Citrate, 50,000 iu of D, 25,000 iu of A, and the E & K seperately too (don't know amts off hand). They are tiny little capsules, and you can get them from vitalady or Amazon.com.

Do i take a chewable form of these? If not, what about absorption? I'm passing a whole lot of oil in my stools, though my balance of protein to oil is about the same. Yesterday, i thought i had passed a small pool of blood in my stool and it turned out to to be tomato soup from the night before that was congealed in oil. I am obviously confused about what i should be doing. What sort of Dr. should I look for to help me with this vitamin/nutrition issue when i get to Seattle? Does anyone know of someone especially good in the greater Seattle area for helping DSers?
You don't need chewables of anything. You just want to be wary of anything that is time released (I'm referring to other meds in general, for I don't know of any time release vitamins). You may only be able to take one or two pills at a time at first, but as your stomach is used to things, you'll be able to take a handful in no time. Don't worry about the oil in your stools. This lessens over time, or at least becomes less noticeable. You can add some beneficial fiber if you like to bulk it up, like oatmeal, but take just a little at a time, because I swear it keeps expanding even after you eat it. For docs, you'll be hard pressed to find one that won't just bundle you into a general wls group and treat you like a RNY patient.
