2 step DSers, are there a lot out there?
VSG in 2007 for me. Added the DS 6 months ago. Definitely the 2nd part was easier than the first. When I was sleeved, I quickly got dehydrated because all I could do was sip. With my matured sleeve going in for part 2, I had no issues getting in 64+ oz a day. In addition, I've had no issues getting in 100+g of protein in daily. I have dealt with less hair loss as a result which was fan-freakin-tastic. Walking around was easier right after surgery. VSG, I was 403. DS I was 353 so being 50 lbs lighter might have had something to do with it, but can't tell for certain. I think I have a high pain tolerance too.
Other than the sleeve and 2 c-sections, I haven't had any other abdominal surgeries so there was no scar tissue to work around or cause issues. He removed my gallbladder (so thankful since it was a crummy POS anyway). I think he said it took around 4 hours from start to finish just for the switch part. He said my sleeve looked great for the DS so I didn't need to be resleeved. I did notice that for the first few weeks after I had a good amount of restriction again. I figured that was from the abdominal swelling. Once the swelling went down, I had less restriction... but this was a really nicely unexpected side effect from the surgery since I was worried about not feeling full on liquids/purees/mushies for 3 weeks. Once I was about a month out, I was eating my normal portions of protein packed meals and loosing LB's again...
Down 81 lbs since my switch. =) Very happy camper over here!
Thanks a million, CF. What a detailed answer! I am glad things are working out for you, and your easier 2nd half gives me hope. I am seriously terrified. I keep thinking that I am deliberately mutilating myself, and it could screw me up for ever after. At the same time I am excited and trust all will be well. My mind is all over the place. Your answer made me feel better. THANKS AGAIN!! -Michelle
Michelle, I totally get your anxiousness. I was there too. About 2 weeks prior to surgery, I was a basket case! Now I'm just wishing I'd done it sooner instead of waiting until I'd regained most of what I'd lost. Hell... I'd be at goal by now if I had just put my fears aside and taken the leap. But what's done is done and I'm really happy that I did it!
Keep in touch! If you've got questions, I'm an open book! =)
