I did all my pre testing today.. Upper GI... Gas crystals barium and a lot of turning left, right, stomach, back..... Then I had to start my pre op diet. So today I fasted until noon then had a protein shake at around 1 and my bar at around six pm and one more shake before bed. I have been nauseous since the first shake. Is it the shakes or the barium? The shakes are not that bad tasting but they are thick... I don't know how I'm going to get these down after surgery...

yeah, it could be the barium.  Drink lots of water to flu**** out. Call the doc.  If you get constipated you may need to do an enema and/or stool softeners...

Your tastes will be changing post surgery, not for the better. Everything tasted metallic to me for a few weeks. Try the foods/shakes again when your taste buds return to normal. There are many shake mixes to try, ready made shakes were good for me. I found a few at Sams and Costco. I add a few things to the shakes, and protein fruit drink packet mixes to help the taste, experiment. Heavy cream, sweetener, vanilla, SF Torani flavoring. Now I like Dymatize Elite shakes, lots of good flavors, and quality protein.
