Wild rice
Wild rice is actually a grain. And a carb is a carb. The DS doesn't work the same for everyone so my advice is always wait to experiment with carbs till you reach goal. Then you can find out what you can and can't eat without gaining.
And I am speaking from the perspective of someone who never did reach a normal BMI. It's just not worth it! Lose the weight while it's easy!
Bummer. Was actually looking forward to making cream of chicken and wild rice soup with REAL cream instead of lowfat milk. Oh well.
I am happy that despite a week of eating debauchery at home with my family, I didn't gain anything. Actually lost 2 pounds. Soooo not what I expected after 2 straight days of fried stuff in gravy at the beginning of my visit. (Snow on Christmas, so happy! says the California girl!)
I still make my chicken & wild rice soup, but I keep the rice separate. Then I take a tiny spoonful and put it in the bottom of the bowl and pour the rest on top. It's enough to give me a little taste, but mostly what I get is the chicken, ham, & veggies that I put in. And that yummy yummy cream & butter based broth!!! For the rest of my family, I just mix in a large spoonful of rice in their bowl before I serve it.
Just an option....
I like the suggestion of having the rice separately and adding a small amount to your soup when you're ready to eat it.
I also wanted to note that rice can be sneaky - you eat it, love it, then it EXPANDS and you feel it bad, so treat lightly. Chipotle has kicked my ass a few times with their delicious rice.
