protein shakes absorbtion
I guess we don't really know for sure. I try to keep my shakes around 30 grams and just have more throughout the morning. Think of them like medicine that you have to take 3 times a day to keep it in your system consistently.

someone asked me to reply to this. I'm not claiming to be any authority on this, however, I've been attached to protein products since 1994.
the very ethical vendors with whom I've been privileged to know, all still use the 30/30/3 rule as a guide for normies. 30 grams consumed in less than 30 minutes, every 3 hours. I use 30/30/2. With my shortened transit time, I figure 2 hrs is equal to a normie's 3. My labs, as well as others, indicate that is a fairly valid theory.
That said, i is NOT in the interest of any seller or mfr to LIMIT the amount of protein a person can/should/might want to take. If you prefer to drink your 120g in one drink, go for it. I don't think your labs (or body building) would show that system equal to taking 30g in 4 servings. If you didn't get good results, you'd be inclined to buy MORE protein,, right? I'd rather see you take more, but smaller servings to maximize your $$. That's the way we eat, right? Less, but more often?
Not everyone will want to do the 6 drinks per day I prefer for myself (180g), so the amount YOU use is subject to your medical professionals and your personal results. My husband gets better lab results than I do, with the same surgery type with fewer g per day. I use my protein as a tool, as well as a nutrition source. It keeps ME in the driver's seat. My 6 per day habit makes my intake regular so I don't drop back into my one mega-meal a day habit. But if I am having a grazing day (defined as a handful of something every 3-20-30 minutes), it helps me stay on my preferred 6 small meals. It can work both ways, to keep me on a steady intake when I don't want to eat and to keep me at my steady when I want to eat the entire cookie aisle at the grocery store. Know what I mean?
So, that is still not an authoratative answer, but as I said, the ethical mfrs use that as a rule of thumb. Some less ethical may place no limits at all, OR have uninformed persons answering the "800 number", which was far the case in the early days of whey protein use.
