My surgeon's office called me today, by the end of the conversation my surgery date was moved from the 18th of February to the 7th of January. Which I am very excited about!!! My question is this... The following Monday, (14th of January) I start school and my hounder two start home schooling... will I be able to function in a week? I am having the operation laparoscopic  and have been told it is much easier that the other. Do I need to panic?

I was in the hospital for 4 days and very listless for several weeks - not days after that, so don't expect to be very useful at all.

I was laporascopic and everything went great. I was able to function 1/2 days at a desk job after 2 weeks off. Another week and I was back full time.

Laparoscopic here.  Took 3 weeks off.  The first 2 weeks I was useless.  The last week, I probably could have gone back, but my dr recommended another week at home.

No.

I was still in the hospital at one week post op.  Granted I was open, but still...

Oh my that is what I was afraid of. My schooling is on line through Liberty University so I'm not to overly worried about it to much. I can email my professor's and let them know and they'll give me a week to make up the few things needed that first week. However, my main concern is after the new year my younger two will be homeschooled until this school year is over. They start on the 14th which is only one week after my surgery.

I too homeschool and I finished the school year before my surgery on May 15th and I am so glad I did. Will this be your first experience homeschooling? If so I would postpone your surgery til May and push yourself to get your kids done early or have the surgery and put them in school. I can't imagine having to have had to school my kids that soon after surgery. It also depends on how old your children are. If they are less than 5th grade I say wait. If they are 5th grade and higher and are using something like Monarch that is more student led then you might be able to work it out. PM me if you like. I would be more than happy to discuss it further. Another homeschool DS mom is the one who helped me figure out the timing.

No it's not my first experience with homeschooling. When we first adopted the girls I homeschooled them for a year before I put them into a public school. The program I'm using is through the school district, it's called K12. It's all online and they even have a school teacher once a week they meet with over skype. They are 5th and 7th grade, and for the most part do really well with taking directions and doing what they need to on their own. I just am worried I'm getting in way over my head. I was told by my doctor that the first week is the hardest and by the second I should feel fine enough to do light things around the home. So I figured at that time to go ahead with this due to their classes being self taught. But now that it is getting closer to that time I am second guessing my self.

I was in the hospital for 3 days, in a motel until my 1 week checkup and worthless until after 3 weeks.  There is no way I could have worked during those first 3 weeks.  I could barely sleep. I absolutely could not stay/get hydrated even tho I worked like hell at it.  You just can't understand until you get there that sipping water can be a full time job.

My surgery was lap with 0 complications.

I has lap DS done one week ago today.  If you get good pain meds to help you might be alright.  I really don't have any pain as long as I am sitting still...walking is all that really hurts.  So, sitting in the recliner with a laptop, and then something similar with your kids could work.  I am home alone today with my 2 & 4 year old kids.  They are pretty independent for their ages, so we are doing alright.  I am a firm believer that you can do anything you put your mind to, and since you will be staying at home I think it is reasonable. Good luck!
